FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
My pricing system is based on a $50hourly rate. That rate involves all preparation and materials needed as well as consultations with parents and teachers if applicable. All materials are customized to the student's needs, but I also will work with texts and other materials assigned by the student's teacher(s). Resumes. cover letters, and editing services are billed at a fixed rate depending upon how much time I believe will be required to accomplish the job. Once a fixed rate is quoted, it will apply until the task is finished according to the work expectations outlined in writing at the initial teacher/student/client meeting. If adjustments need to be made due to unexpected extra work, I will discuss any additional fees with the student/client and get client agreement before continuing with the work. I also ask that payment be rendered at the time of service. If working with an online client, I ask that payment be sent via PayPal within 24 hours of completion of class or service. Failure to render payment within this time period will result in cancellation of future classes/services. I ask to be notified of cancellations at least 12 hours in advance if at all possible. Emergencies do happen and I understand when those occur; however, if forgetting classes or frequently changing with little notice happens on a regular basis, I will reassess working with the student/client.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I like to meet with the student and parents (if student is a minor) and learn what the goals and expectations are as well as the student's interests. I then develop a written plan and share it with the student/client (and parents) for their feedback and agreement. If parents would like me to meet with the student's teacher, I am pleased to do that. Of course, adjustments can be made as the tutoring process evolves and as I get to know the student better. Changes always will be discussed with the student/client and parent (if applicable). I also am open to working with small (up to five) students at a time for an adjusted fee.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a Bachelor's Degree and graduate work in English and a Master's Degree in Educational Psychology. I read constantly to stay up to speed on new developments in my field and have a Certificate of Completion for professional development in English as a Second Language Instructor Training. I have lived and traveled extensively in Mexico and Latin America and am bilingual (English/Spanish) and bicultural.
