Introduction: The technique that I use is proven successful. From classical to pop, the technique works. Most successful artists use this technique. I encourage all to research Speech Level Singing and those artists that use it. Also, for those that want the training, I was a high school choral teacher for many years. I have many years of experience teaching music reading as well as ear training. Helping those succeed! Successful singing is dependent on successfully understanding the voice and how it works. Watching those people learn and successfully engage their voice from the very lowest note to the very highest is very rewarding.

Gene is a miracle worker. I have been working with him for about 2 months now, and in this short amount of time, I have learned to do things with my voice I never thought I would be able to do. For years, I sang soprano in choir. After I graduated, I quit and the only singing I did was at church. The songs I sang tended to be in the higher range, but seeing the difficulty I had in singing them powerfully, I decided to start taking voice lessons. They helped, but none of them really taught me how to use my voice for the style of music I was singing. I even had one teacher tell me I wasn’t really a soprano and to never let anyone tell me that I was. Gene has shown me that I was right all along. In teaching me proper vocal technique, he has shown me that my comfort zone is, in fact, in the higher range (if anything, I actually have a bit more trouble singing low now, because I don’t make unhealthy changes in my voice to do it!) My voice now has a tone and smoothness it has never had before, and I know it’ll only go up from here. I can’t thank him enough!!!

Gene, thank you so much for a great first lesson! I can't wait for the next one, and to practice my new techniques on my own. Gene was able, in the first few minutes, address a problem that I have been having since I first started singing in choirs. It has always been very difficult for me to sing low. He was able to tell me why I was having the problem and some of the common misconceptions about it. One of the major paradigms I will have to shift in my own mind is that head voice isn't everything. I feel like even though I will be working outside of my comfort zone, (I love to sing the high stuff) being able to establish my lower range will provide a good foundation for those high notes that I love so much. I'm so excited about being able to work on new music that I always thought was outside of my capabilities!!!

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
The first lesson is free. My standard fee is $40 per half hour. I’m always open to negotiate!
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I typically assess the voice, check for tendencies that inhibit good singing, create exercises that help the student get rid of the bad tendencies, and apply what the student learned to a song of their choice.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I still take lessons, attend Master Classes, attend conferences. BA in performance from The University of Wisconsin with certification MME from Indiana University
