Your manuscript is your baby! It's something you've worked very, very hard at, poured your heart and soul into, so I understand--- handing it over to another person to critique can be a scary thing! But after looking over many potential editors, I found Ava. Ava sent me a sample edit of my prologue, to show me how my writing could be made even better, and more importantly, she helped me feel comfortable knowing that she wasn't going to tear up my story for the sake of tearing it up. Ava works with her clients to ensure they are satisfied with the final product, while leaving final veto power to the author. With Ava you get more than just basic proofing and grammar corrections, you get more substantive comments about the story in the margins, explaining the how/why she recommends changes be made. After more than a decade of working to bring my book to life, I wouldn't have trusted just anyone with it. And don't even think you can go at it alone. If you aspire to becoming a successful writer, you will need a good editor! And if you have a passion for writing, like I do, I think you'll appreciate what Ava has to offer.

FAQs

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Standard .05 cents per word. You provide me with a word count, I provide you with a quote. I do offer discounts for very clean manuscripts or if you would like only proofreading, in which case I charge between .03 to .04 per word.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I want to know about the full scope of your project and your goals, as well as any concerns you may have. I am up front about cost and do not make you sign any contracts, which many editors opt to do. If you are not one hundred percent happy with my work, we do not move forward. That said, I am proud to say I have never lost a client!
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
BA in English and Rhetoric from University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana. MFA from University of Ann Arbor in writing. Ten years teaching experience and twenty years editing experience...and loving it just as much as I did all those years ago when I first started!
