Work was ok, but took a lot longer than promised, plus there was no communication unless we initiated it/begged for an update, and several mistakes were made (the first of which we caught in time, luckily). If you decide to work with this pro, a few suggestions: 1. He does not like working with women, so arrange all communication through a man, if possible. 2. Get ALL details in writing. The bid is very vague and specific requests will be forgotten if not thoroughly detailed on the bid sheet. 3. If you want to use specific materials, follow up to make sure that he actually ordered what was promised on the bid sheet. 4. Get a firm start date in writing before you submit the first payment. If you are a man who is not concerned with attention to detail, Eric seems like a good guy and appears to know what he is doing, so hopefully you'll have better luck than we did.

Pelican Design & Construction, LLC's reply
We are disappointed that your experience with Pelican was less than what you had hoped. We strive for 100% satisfaction, every time! However, due to the overwhelming demand for our services, we acknowledge we may have fallen short of our goal. If this is true, we apologize. It appears that your issues all center around communication. While communication is a two-way street, it is something that we can always do better, have made plans to do better, and and will continue to do better. With respect to "not like working with women," I respectfully disagree. I communicated with both you and your husband and, in fact, most of my communications were with you. Nonetheless, the vast majority of our current residential clients are women, none of whom have made any similar claim. I am sorry that was your perception. I hope you will give Pelican another opportunity to work with you in the future and demonstrate that it has solved any communication failures.

We hired them in early January to do a total kitchen remodel. Pros. Overall we were satisfied with their work. All their workers were careful skilled and courteous. They constantly made sure we approved of what they were about to do and made several helpful suggestions which led to improvements in the project. The quality of their work in the installation of new cabinets was particularly impressive. Eric, the Principal, was responsive to questions and concerns. Cons. Before the project began we gave them detailed instructions, along with photographs of the exact design and materials we wished for the counter tops and cabinets but their failure to order them in a timely manner resulted in delays to the completion of the project that could have been avoided. One of their subcontractors, the painters, performed work that was definitely sub-standard and at times poor. Alex and Mary McLachlan, Duncanville
