Jaun was hired to illustrate my fantasy novel in the Oz series -- a large project that required more than fifty pieces of art, ranging from half page b & w to full color cover art. We were so lucky to get him! He brought real artistic vision as well as great technical skill; and at the same time he showed deep respect for a century's worth of Oz iconography. He clearly wanted to make the book as good as it could possibly be, and he always appreciated our suggestions and revisions. For me, that's the best of all possible worlds -- a distinct artistic vision combined with a collaborative spirit. We had a generous time frame, so I can't speak to the issue of deadlines. I will say, though, that Jaun made terrific use of his time and kept up a continual flow of excellent work. He's a good communicator, too. Best of all, the finished book makes me so proud! You can be sure I'll hire him again in the future!

Jaun Raza illustrated the cover and interior one of my recent books, The Magic Umbrella of Oz, by Paul Dana, and the cover of Queen Ann in Oz, both books published by The Royal Publisher of Oz. Both the author and I were thrilled by three signifcant factors that Raza brought to the table: 1) the quality of his work, which is astounding, detailed, beautiful and profoundly reflective of what we were looking for. Oftentimes, it would even exceed what we had envisioned. 2) A high level of professionalism; he communicates, listens well, strives hard to please, and submits his work on time. 3) An ability to comprehend what the narrative needs and how best to illustrate it; this allows him to both work independently when the need calls for it, and interdependently, in that he takes direction from the author and publisher when they have certain specific requirements that must be met (be it character images, locations, etc.) I am not only thrilled with Raza's work, but fully intend to use him again on future projects. You simply cannot go wrong with this illustrator.

I have worked with Jaun a few times now and the experience keeps getting better every time. For the most recent project, we hired Jaun on short notice to create a green screen background from the Django Unchained scene. Not only did he follow the basic instruction, he went above and beyond by creating elements which elevated the look to another level creating depth and adding lighting and new elements to the BG. He showed up on time, dressed nicely and was very pleasant. The only issue is that he was TOO SLOW. He was told that there would be a party of about 50 people that he was supposed to make sketches for. I wanted basic charcoal or pencil type sketches. I showed him a photo of what I wanted. Instead the guests were painted and on 5 hours he was only able to do less than 10. I was busy entertaining guests and didn't have time to oversee what he was doing so I didn't realize until the end how slow he was. The paintings came out ok, but I'm Extremely disappointed with the number of people that were completed.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Discussing the scope of the project. Enter a legally binding contract with the terms and conditions both parties agree too. Submit and review with customer the preliminary framework of the project. Execution of the work and submittal for final review. Delivery of final work.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Graduated from the Ringling College of Art and Design with a Bachelors of Fine Art. Majoring in Illustration, a rigorous four years of intense training in the visual arts.
