I have been training with Ricky for a little over 3 years now. When I started with him I was 10 months post-op from having an L5-S1 Anterior Lumbar Fusion (back surgery). For ten years I had issues with my back, throughout my entire 20's I felt like I had the body of an unhealthy 80 year old. I was in pain all the time. I could not exercise or do most things people my age were doing without "paying for it" during the following weeks. I had heard about Ricky from some friends and they all spoke of him very highly. I was very skeptical about training because of my history with back pain, but eventually I was talked into at least giving it a try. The first time I worked out with Ricky, we talked extensively about my concerns and about my surgery. He developed a program to help me strengthen my core to help support my back and lessen the pain. When I started I couldn't run more than a couple of minutes, could barely squat 85 lbs. more than once and was still dealing with back pain. Within 6 months of training with Ricky I was running 2 miles, squatting 225 lbs 10 times and I no longer had back pain 24/7. Due to a new job and hectic travel schedule, I had to take a 10 month hiatus from the gym. However, I've since returned to the gym and part of that decision was due to that "sneaky" back pain I felt returning. Since being back in the gym the last 3 months, I am doing things I never thought possible. I am already up to running 3 miles every workout and I feel great. My strength is also returning rapidly. Training with Ricky was one of the best decisions I ever made, he has changed my life! People workout with trainers for all different reasons, I chose to do it because I wanted to take control of my body and be pain free. Ricky Jackson helped me achieve this goal. In addition, working out has helped to increase my self-esteem and confidence in my abilities.

The efficiency and care with which he passes his vast knowledge is unmatched, and his lessons are also outrageously fun. Ken possesses a lifetime of real world knowledge and experience in application and that is a serious consideration if you're aim is to learn self defense. There is no belt system, no memorization of complex poses, simply a raw and very genuine understanding of the biomechanics of fighting or defending yourself/loved ones with a degree of startling devastation. I have studied with John Peek for the last 2-3 years in the Haganah self defense system. I have been involved in the martial arts for a number of years and find John's teaching methodology and Haganah system to be the answer to my self defense development that the traditional styles lacked. John's emphasis on learning these very effective techniques for the right reasons and applications is central to his teaching culture. He also places great emphasis on partner preservation which minimizes injury without detracting from the real life aspects of applying the techniques. Lenny worked over a period of about six months with our 12-year old son, we'll call him "Frank," a hyper-articulate but irresponsible ADHD kid whose favorite physical activity is mousing with his right hand while snacking with his left, and who previously resolutely resisted all attempts to engage him in sports or exercise. Lenny realized that if he engaged Frank's brain, his body would follow. Lenny made the training sessions fun (in part, by patiently and attentively listening to Frank’s passions of the day) so that Frank looked forward to them, and even took some responsibility for being ready to start on time. The training focused on core strength and karate kata. Physically, we saw Frank's ability to move increase markedly over time, going from a slumping lumber to movements that approached grace. Mentally and emotionally, Frank developed a strong desire to live up to Lenny’s expectations and take responsibility for his own nutrition and physical activity. I don’t know how we will find someone else with Lenny’s patience, humor, and calm discipline to play a similar role in Frank’s life, but I believe Lenny’s work over the past six months has awakened in Frank a sense of self-discipline and responsibility that will continue to develop. Having tried ourselves to begin that awakening, we cannot be more appreciative of what Lenny has accomplished in this short time period. Our only regret is that we couldn’t find the time for Lenny to be our trainer too.

I intend to return ASAP, From just one hours time in his class; I can say Sifu Alex Wallenwein; is a very fine teacher, with great knowledge to share. He teaches with conviction and passion for his thr art; but with the patience of a real and true teacher. I am 44 years old (soon to be 45) and merely wanted to get back into shape learjing a fascinating and usefull set of skills and art, hAlbert Einstein once said: The hardest task it to be a teacher. Teaching should be such that what is offered is perceived as a valuable gift and not as a hard duty.
The owner, the instructors, the more intimate class size leads to an environment conducive to developing quickly within the discipline and general fitness. It's a place you will be pushed out of your comfort zone, the ambience is that of a typical nascent martial arts gym on the come up. If you want fancy and flashy, look elsewhere. If you want to take your training seriously and get the attention from small class sizes and you are willing to give your hardest effort, I believe this is the place to progress quickly and intelligently. The intellectual capital and sum of experience available amongst the instructors is commensurate with any high level gym and the humility and welcoming atmosphere exceeds them.
