I was in a bind in the beginning stages of my divorce after being cheated on, her lawyer filed first, because I wasn't sure I was ready to do that yet, but they tried to bury me with paperwork and money! The lawyer that was recommended to me, was just sitting on his hands and way too expensive, and didn't want to fight for me to see my kids and have an equitable split. I got on Thumbtack, made an inquiry for service and Michael responded that night. He helped me make some decisions that included firing my attorney and hiring another one that I knew personally. Though Michael's rates are very reasonable for the representation he will give, he advised me via email and text to go with the attorney I knew, but if things didn't work out, he was there. He brought things to light that I hadn't thought about and my attorney at the time should've already done. Michael did all this without charging me a dime, he didn't have to spend his time to listen to my situation and think about it and counsel me, but he did. If this doesn't speak to his character and aggressiveness, then I don't know what could make you understand. I will recommend Michael Rubin, and he still asks to stay in the loop just in case, and he never asked for a penny. I was lost, scared and new to the process and he brought me comfort and confidence when I needed it the most. If you want someone organized, who responds within minutes, who will have a game plan in no time, and give you the level of aggressive representation you deserve, one would be quite obtuse to dismiss even a phone call or email to Michael. He's got your back and I know you leave it to him and you won't have to worry, and he's not after your pocket book like 95% of attorneys are. Thanks again for everything Michael.

Hiring an Attorney is one the basic need in the US. I believe all attorneys are professionals but It’s difficult to find an understanding one, who is willing to help you in a manner that your pocket affords. After contacting many attorneys it was disappointing, but after meeting Mr. Michael and Ms. Kavitha Methew it was delightful and relief that we are in safe hands. The services they provide are amazing. I will recommend all of you for their services, if you really looking for an affordable and a knowledgeable attorney. I, thank you for your kind support in my L1 visa application.

Christie was very assuring and helpful in taking first steps to decide whether I needed or did not need an attorney. That is, she only had my best interests in mind. She provided detailed answers to all my questions and I appreciate her very much. My spouses attorney suggested I did not need an attorney but I do not necessarily agree with that and Christie was able to provide me the risk analysis information regarding how to make that decision. My final decision is still up in the air but if I choose to be represented, even for just advice (not for court related "war of the roses" which EVERYONE wants to avoid), there is no question, no doubt, that I would be in the best hands with Christie. I recommend her 100%. Let me also add that her rates are very affordable, which is very important in the midst of an impending divorce where already there will be financial challenges. Thanks Christie!

I never, ever expected to be looking for a divorce attorney, not after 33 years so when my husband found someone else, I was overwhelmed and fighting panic. I have a long term chronic illness that has prevented me from working for the last 20 years, am self employed with a very small annual income and am not exactly hireable with all that and being over 55 years old. I was terrified and overwhelmed with worry about how I would be able to support myself going forward. Ms Loyd not only offered me much needed legal counsel, her calm and patient attitude gave me time to calm my mind, focus and ask for the information that I needed to know. Divorce is complicated, on top of the emotional devastation and upheaval. Ms Loyd was patient and kind with me, even when I was asking something for the third time. She was completely honest with me in tempering my expectations, yet still helped me get a very fair settlement and needed security for my future. If your life is going to be turned upside down, I would not hesitate to recommend Ms Loyd to help you find your new 'normal'.

Ross Tew is a terrific estate planning attorney with reasonable rates! He handled our complete Trust, Wills, Powers of Attorney, and more in a professional, timely manner. He took the time to come to our house and fit into our busy schedule and even came to our location for signing papers. He answered all our questions in a way we could understand legal issues and gave us confidence in everything he did. He is not always easy to reach, because he values his family time, but came through for us, even during the holidays.

After being involved in an automobile accident and having worked for a personal injury attorney there was no better law firm than Ramey Law Firm to represent me. I know from experience that Hardin Ramey does his best to get you every penny you deserve and never takes more than the client. From the start I knew I was in good hands. I’ve had close friends whom I referred to Ramey Law Firm. Those friends sought out another attorney and regretted it in the end. They complained of not being able to speak to their attorney and when their case settled, the attorney took more of the settlement then them. It was heart breaking to hear this from them. I will always appreciate and respect Mr. Ramey for what he does for people going through a difficult time and refer everyone I know to Ramey Law Firm. He cares about his clients and is one of the best, truthful and honest attorneys in Dallas, TX.

EXCELLENT service and AMAZING / EXPERIENCED attorney. My husband had been FALSELY accused of a sexual assault, a very strange story with many twists, so we had to make sure go go with the BEST attorney out there. Before deciding to go with Jeff I had met with many other local attorneys, of which I felt were reputable. But we also felt that our case was just going to be handed off to a lower, newer , less experienced lawyer that would work and do the case (as in subcontracted out). Jeff gave us the feeling he was able, experienced, and ready to fight for us. I like his military background and ethics. I am sure if I had not seeked out his services the outcome could have been very different . Needless to say we got the ( NOT guilty verdict ) and I am not so sure it would have turned out that way he would have used someone else or even the public defender. Lawyers have their fees and sometimes you have to sacrifice but what's the alternative, maybe being put away for 10-20 years --maybe even life for something you didn't do? I know if I ever need him again I won't hesitate to call or recommend him to anyone. Thank you Jeff for not only being such an amazing attorney but also our counselor when things got scary. We will forever be grateful for you. Thank you Jeff for getting our family back and letting our 3 kids have their dad back! Anyone that reads this please don't put you or your loved one's freedom at risk, it's priceless... Put your trust in Jeff like our family did. He's the best out there.

Was the only attorney who didn't approach the case aiming to cater to my ex wife's attorney. He worked with me on the retainer and began working immediately on the case that was already ongoing. Catching things up, then fired paperwork back at them and with just that pressure she folded. Greatly appreciate his help and would highly recommend him

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you find a good real estate lawyer?

If buying or selling property feels overwhelming and the thought of finding a good real estate lawyer seems daunting, you’re in luck. There are some simple steps to follow for finding a trustworthy, affordable real estate lawyer to help with your property and legal needs.

  • Determine what kind of real estate lawyer you need. Many states require a real estate attorney to handle sale closing documents. For more complex matters such as a real estate deal gone awry or foreclosure, you’ll want to find an attorney who has successfully handled cases like yours.
  • Look for online reviews of real estate lawyers in your area. Verify that they have proven experience closing or winning cases like yours and that they are in good standing with the state bar association.
  • Choose two or three lawyers to interview. Many offer a free consultation to learn about your case and provide information about rates. For standard real estate closing services, in-depth interviewing might not be necessary.
  • Ask about their rates and whether they charge by the hour or provide services for a flat fee. Ask whether a retainer is required, and what the total bill should be for a case like yours.
  • Ask for a write-up of the services that will be covered by the projected costs.
  • Make sure you like the real estate agent and they treat you with respect. Confirm whether they or another person will be working on your case and make sure you’re comfortable with all members of their team.
  • Pay the retainer and hire your lawyer.

What does an immigration attorney do?

Immigration lawyers help their clients through all phases of the immigration process. Experts on immigration law, they are legally qualified to represent U.S. citizens, permanent residents or undocumented immigrants. Immigration lawyers also provide assistance to visitors here on student, work or travel visas, and can represent clients who may have an expired visa or who have overstayed their visa.

You can hire an immigration lawyer to assist you with petitioning for renewing a permanent resident or green card, navigating the naturalization process, submitting an employee-based petition for a work visa, filing a petition for a family member, or representing you or a loved one who is facing detention or deportation, as well as replacing, extending or changing a current visa, green card or work permit. The immigration process is highly complex, with multiple hearings, paperwork and requirements. Hiring a legal expert to represent you can help you make your best effort in the process. When researching immigration lawyers, it is very important to verify their qualifications and find a reputable attorney. Read reviews and verify that the immigration lawyer is licensed by your state before paying any fees.

What is a personal injury lawyer?

A personal injury lawyer fights on your behalf if you’ve been injured physically, psychologically, economically or in reputation. This injury may be the result of neglect or malicious intent of another person, or it could be at the hands of a business, government or other entity. Personal injury lawyers specialize in tort law, which is the law of civil wrongs like car accidents, company wrongdoing, unlawful imprisonment and more.

To become qualified to be a personal injury lawyer in the United States, a person must earn a bachelor’s degree, followed by a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from a law school. Most states then require the person to pass the bar exam to become licensed to practice law. Unlike many attorneys who require a retainer, personal injury lawyers often work on contingency fees. This means that in lieu of payment upfront, they receive an agreed-upon percentage of the settlement in case of a win.

What does a real estate lawyer do?

A real estate lawyer represents their client’s best interest in all matters related to the sale, purchase and ownership of real estate. They are experts in real estate law. In states that require a real estate lawyer to close home sales, the lawyer must review and finalize all documents before the deal can be legally completed. Real estate lawyers also help clients legally protect their rights when entering, exiting or renegotiating a real estate deal. You can hire a real estate lawyer as an individual or as a business. A real estate lawyer can help with negotiation, addressing mortgage fraud, managing foreclosures and bankruptcy, transfers of titles and deeds, property ownership disputes, zoning issues, creating a co-ownership contract for joint purchase of a property, and much more. Real estate lawyers can also protect you from issues that result when a known problem was not properly disclosed by the previous owner. Overall, real estate lawyers are an added cost when it comes to buying and selling property, but they also ensure your best interests are met, and that you and the people you are doing business with comply with the law.

What kind of lawyer does wills?

No one likes talking about death, but it’s better than leaving your children or siblings to sort out your estate. A clearly planned will can make the time of mourning easier for everyone. An estate attorney will develop a legal will, create trusts on your behalf, and ensure the proper execution of your estate after you pass away.

Family attorneys and estate attorneys, also called probate and wills attorneys, can each prepare wills. The type of lawyer best suited to prepare your will depends on your situation. Most family attorneys provide services to prepare basic wills, including bequeathing property and personal items to family or naming a guardian for minor children. However, estate attorneys specialize in preparing wills in more complex situations. Consider hiring an estate attorney if you:

  • Have a large number of assets, especially those subject to estate taxes
  • Want to create a trust, such as allowing a spouse to live in your home until he or she dies and then leaving it to your children, or set up long-term care for a beneficiary
  • Have an ownership stake in a business
  • Expect someone to contest your will
  • Want to disinherit your spouse
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
