To me martial arts is about self-defense and self-improvement. Many schools dwell too much on competitions, which can get pretty far away from practical self-defense and sometimes get into an ego-trip that winning a medal or trophy means you're somehow better than the other guy. Others forget the martial part of martial arts -- it has to work! Developing the ability to protect yourself and improving yourself day by day - THAT is what it's about.
I like seeing the light go on for my students when they learn something or get past an obstacle. I like seeing the smiles on their faces. I like feeling that I've made a difference in their lives.

I have studied under several different martial arts teachers over the years. I have been studying under Master Beck for almost a year. Not only does Master Beck have tremendous knowledge in both Hapkido and Arnis (the two styles that I study), he is very much a technician, always pointing out the small nuances that make a particular technique successful or more effective. Not only is he passionate about martial arts, he is equally passionate about teaching and cares about his students. The fairly small group of students allows for lots of personal attention, which is not typically the case with large classes.

Master Beck does an awesome job of breaking down his martial arts for you to learn effectively, despite your level of previous training. I really enjoy training here with him and the rest of the class!

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
$150/hour for private lessons, $250/hour for semiprivate (2-5 people), or my group classes are cheaper at set times on per class, per 6-pack of classes, or monthly rates.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
A phone interview to understand your training goals and then an introductory private lesson to answer your questions and give you a feel for what training with me would be like.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Training with many masters and grandmasters for over 33 years now.
