Introduction: As a Contemporary Impressionist I paint mainly landscape and cityscape in oil. I enjoy painting picturesque subjects and destination spots that evoke fond memories and longings to warm the heart, encourage the soul, and bring a smile to the face. I do not seek to render in photographic detail, but instead to create expressive, dynamic impressions so that the viewer can enter the scene personally, experiencing and completing it for themselves. I agree with Aristotle’s statement, “The aim of art is to represent not the outward appearance of things, but their inward significance.” And I believe the visual arts best serve humankind by joining nature in displaying the reality and beauty of our Creator (Romans 1:20). As an artist I merely “plagiarize God’s work.” I consider myself an "Illuministic Impressionist". I seek to work with the Spirit to reawaken the human soul to the reality and beauty of God, through the visual arts, in the tradition of other great artists of the past. Thus, I paint "in light of eternity" to draw others to the beauty of their Creator. (Eccs. 3:11) It continues to fascinate me that heaven, eternity and God are always described in terms of light, color and “glory” (Revelation 21:9-27). Perhaps what really connects with the inner soul of the lover of art is that universal longing to see, if only “…in a mirror dimly…” (1 Corinthians 13:12), a glimpse of the spiritual realm beyond this one, and ultimately, once again, the very face of God (Rev. 22:4)? It is my desire to help bring the visual arts back to the church as a means of glorifying God and being "salt and light" to our world. I believe our goal as Christian artists is simply allow Christ to express Himself through us and our work. “Great art is the outward expression of an inner life in the artist.” Edward Hopper I enjoy the language of "visual poetry" that is oil painting. As Aristotle so apply observed, “The aim of art is to represent not the outward appearance of things, but their inward significance.” And I agree with Edward Hopper's statement that, "If I could say it in words there would be no reason to paint." My main goal and enjoyment is to “... always to deepen the mystery.” (Francis Bacon) “God’s glory is on tour in the skies, God-craft on exhibit across the horizon. Madame Day holds classes every morning, Professor Night lectures each evening. Their words aren’t heard, their voices aren’t recorded, but their silence fills the earth: unspoken truth is spoken everywhere.” Psalm 19:1-4 (The Message)
