Loved working with Lone Star. Mike listened to what we wanted, offered advice and suggestions, was super flexible and accommodating, and reasonably priced. I highly recommend them. -- we had our yard and beds replaced with decorative gravel and some plants removed and/or relocated, some stone edging put in and a small driveway laid.

A fence contractor had nicked my plumbing lines when installing concrete footings for metal posts. Eli showed up when he said he would, and was able to quickly diagnose and fix my irrigation issue for a fair price the same day. Eli knows his stuff. Thanks for the fine work, Eli!

Max's Masonry went above and beyond to ensure we were very satisfied with the color and quality of our pool replaster. They even added tiles on the steps for depth perception, which was their idea, and done at no additional cost to us. We love this addition to the design. The company was highly committed to quality, provided superior craftsmanship, even went above and beyond to check non-conventional sources for materials when we consulted with them about a potential deck remodel and other landscaping projects. The crew also spoke Spanish, which really helped coordinate work with the other contractor on-site in the interior of the house. Susan and the staff at Max's Masonry all are very friendly and easy to work with and we would certainly recommend them and do business with them again.

Rene's team did an outstanding job at a very reasonable price. The best painters I have ever used! We will definitely be using them for future projects. Painted walls, trim, concrete floor, and did the re-caulking in our bathrooms. Looks great!

Great guy! Worked with me when my iron fence install got delayed mid job. Came back to finish when I was ready. He came up with a clever way to solve a gate problem. I may be hiring him again to do a bigger fence repair caused by the hurricane. I just found out he does concrete work too so he may be repairing a broken section of that for me as well.

This company was awesome! Pete came out to do an estimate (and I got 4 estimates) and was confident, professional and friendly. I was very comfortable with him and chose him to do the job. His assistant Clarissa, followed up with me each day by phone to ensure I was happy and if I needed to make any changes. She was in constant contact with Pete as well and showed up at the job site to lend a hand when needed. Pete and his employees did a fantastic job setting up and installing my 14' x 23' concrete patio. I can't say enough good about them. I will definitely work with them again, this time to build a rock sitting wall and some landscaping. I love their work ethic, and they work very hard, some days 12-15 hours. Hire them!

NS Concrete did an amazing job reconfiguring the slope of my driveway. Nahum is very thorough and responsive. He promptly responded and gave a fair price quote for the job while following through at every stage of the project. He's a talented guy that I would trust with any concrete job. Thanks for the hardwork!

Tony and his team did an excellent job. First, he consulted with me and advised me on various options. He did a great job translating technical aspects of concrete driveway installation into terms I could understand and use to make decisions. Throughout the project, Tony did a great job of updating me and communicating questions. He also knew I am pretty busy while at work, and he did a good job of understanding what smaller questions he could use his best judgment vs. needing to call me. It was obvious that Tony cares a lot about the quality of work he and his team produces and went above and beyond our agreed plan in certain areas.

I hired Concrete Work RDZ for a patio slab. The owner Mr. Rodriguez called to set appointment to come give me quote. He arrived on time and asked me what I wanted. He measured and gave me a quote. He started on job the next day and finished the day he had said. I was very impress on the finished of my patio, loved it. And the company cleaned up like they never worked there before. If I need any concrete work done again I would use Concrete Work RDZ again. I highly recommend the company, they are reliable, on time, 100% satisfaction, and leave everything clean. Now I can enjoy my beautiful patio.

We just moved to the area and didn't know a soul. So finding a good contractor for a big job was a bit intimidating. I cannot even begin to tell you how awesome it has been working with Cesar. He is extremely professional and very detail-oriented. Our project was to extend our 29'x15' patio with a 14'x17' curved concrete addition, and cover the entire existing/new patio with flagstone. Then add a new flower bed, two large trees, and a pergula. Cesar has been here every morning giving an update on the number of workers planned for the day, where they plan to be by the end of the day, and what is coming in the next few days. He gave us some very good advice regarding our choices for flagstone, designs, and spacing. His teams worked extremely hard in the 95+ heat and did a very good job before, during, and after the work was completed. I honestly cannot recommend him and Blue Agave enough. We are going to definitely use him for the next phase of our backyard plan. Definitely!

Unbelievable how great it was working with this company. I had a contractor from another company who had performed almost all of the work, but wouldn't come out to neutralize and seal. My wife and I were so frustrated that we contacted multiple companies to see who could come out the same day to get it done. Archie's came out within a few hours, assessed the job, provided the estimate, and got to work. They finished 5 hours after I contacted them initially. This was a great experience. Please work with them for your concrete finish needs.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you find a good concrete contractor?

Concrete contractors pave driveways, build foundations for homes, install retaining walls, create hardscaping for front and back yards, build concrete steps, and so much more. When searching for a driveway contractor, read reviews from previous customers and ask for referrals. Ask the contractor for photos of examples of their work that’s similar to what you want. Confirm they will get the proper permits so your driveway is up to code. Hiring a driveway contractor to install concrete can average $5-$6 per square foot, or more, depending on where you live, the slope and grade of the driveway site, and regional labor costs. For a new asphalt driveway, the cost could average from $3-5 per square foot. A standard concrete driveway of 500 square feet averaging $5-$6 per square foot would cost $2,500-$3,000 — so it pays to research someone who will do quality work. Excavation and grading work can increase your cost per square foot significantly. Ask whether the contractor provides a materials and labor warranty for their work. Some cracking of the concrete may occur as it settles, but you should talk with your contractor about any structural or aesthetic concerns you have. When hiring a concrete contractor, check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to redo a concrete driveway?

Replacing or renovating a damaged or time-worn asphalt or concrete driveway can boost your curb appeal and add to your home value. If your concrete driveway is nearing 20 years or more, it may be wise to invest in an entirely new driveway, instead of redoing your current one. Asphalt driveways average 15-20 years of life, so if you start needing major repairs around the 15 year mark, weigh the pros and cons of repairing or replacing it. Request bids from two to three driveway contractors to determine pricing and project scope, and check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack. Here are some examples of average costs:

      • The national average cost to hire a concrete specialist is $2,750, but that price can vary greatly depending on the work needed to repair and resurface your concrete driveway, the square footage of the project, current costs of concrete, and regional labor rates.
      • Driveway contractors average $2-$3 per square foot to smooth and resurface your asphalt driveway.
      • Resurfacing concrete driveways averages $3-$10 per square foot. Pricing can depend on repairs needed, project size and geographic location.
      • Nationally, the average cost for resurfacing a 500-square-foot driveway ranges from $2,000 to $5,000.
      • Sealant for a concrete drive can cost $20-$80 per gallon.
      • Sealant for an asphalt drive averages 25 cents per square foot.

      What do paving contractors do?

Paving contractors can be hired to install a concrete or asphalt driveway at your home, office or property. They can also repave an asphalt or concrete driveway that has been damaged by time, weather or heavy loads. When you are looking for a driveway contractor, request quotes from at least three professionals who are in good standing and have great customer reviews. They should do a site visit and write you a bid, detailing the work involved, materials needed, approximate length of the project and estimated cost.

The site for your new driveway will determine costs and the work required for your contractor. First, the ground must be excavated to lay a clear path. This means removing any trees, bushes and stumps. Next, the driveway contractor will grade the area, making a level surface for the concrete or asphalt. To ensure proper drainage, driveway contractors should install a sub-base of compacted gravel (or similar) 4 inches-8 inches deep, depending on your soil type. Then the concrete or asphalt may be poured and smoothed over the top. Your driveway contractor should recommend an appropriate sealant for your climate and advise you on curing time.
