- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I constantly read on the internet and look at videos on You Tube to see other techniques and methods of doing dread locs. I often learn something new however I specialize in dreads, unlike other shops I ONLY do dreads. I can do everything to care for dreads (start new, trim, braid, repairs/extensions, combine, and color) but I only do dreads and nothing else. I have also created several of my own methods that have worked time and again on people with various hair types.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I started doing dreads by doing my husband's hair. We first met when he returned from Iraq as a contractor and needless to say his dreads were a mess. At first I just palm rolled (Twisted) them, but then he told me about another method that he had done when he went to Dubui. I made my tools and started doing his dreads this way (Stitch Locking). It was great no more locking gel no more mess! Pretty soon I started to do his cousins dreads and my son's friend's dreads and before long I have about 20 people that are still regular clients to this day. Then things blew up when I placed an ad on Craig's list and now on this site Thumbtack.com. Now I have more regular clients than I can count and I get new clients all the time! I didnt really decide to do locs....locs found me
