After taking piano lessons with Phebe, I can look back and say that my time with her was extremely valuable and beneficial. Phebe has been teaching for many years, and with her experience, she can teach like no other. She is extremely hard working, passionate, professional, and knowledgable. No matter how young or how old, Phebe can teach anyone how to play with the best technique, ear, and musical judgment. I had the most positive experience and have learned so much about playing the piano and classical music from Phebe.

We found Amy through a mutual friend and were so grateful to find her! My son started guitar lessons with Amy in 6th grade and took lessons for about 2years. He went on to play jazz guitar at HSPVA. We credit Amy for giving him that first guitar foundation he needed. Amy has a great talent to match the student with musical interests so that playing was fun, never a chore. She fostered collaboration among her students, giving my son his first chance at playing in a "rock band". Her recitals are fun and more like talent shows; with vocals, piano, guitar, and student bands. Enjoy and learn!

DJ Q is my first call for any event that requires music without hiring a live band. He has done weddings, cultural events, turn ups (parties) for all age groups. From teen to seniors birthday parties in Los Angeles to happy hour spots in local pubs in Houston. From art exhibits and political thought groups to poetry groups and open mic's he has a range of mixes to cover a broad, eclectic soundscape. I have experienced his work first hand. He's on time, professional and has skills!

HIRE THIS BAND!!! We hired Ziggy Band for our holiday party, and even though no one danced for 90% of the time, they still played their hearts out as if it were a packed dance floor. Their sound is simply amazing! Pam was great to work with and very accommodating with song selections. The music was so diverse so there was something for everyone, (their videos don't do them justice). I just can't recommend them enough.

Karley is an excellent voice coach. I came in looking to get help on my clean vocals and improve my endurance for a metal album my band was set to record. I was certainly not disappointed when the results came in the form of me being able to crush a 3-day straight recording session with a much improved voice. Her teachings are highly transferable for any genre of music that you are looking to sing. Would highly recommend!

Every time Paige sings, you're transported to another world...whether it's sipping wine in a French cafe, dancing in a jazz lounge, or enjoying a mojito in a beach cabana in Mexico, it's the perfect way to spend an afternoon or evening. I highly recommend this band - for date night, or a lovely ambiance while you work from your laptop, or a night on the town with friends. You won't be disappointed.

    About

The instrumentation of British brass bands does away with all the French horns and woodwinds found in the typical American concert band, while including some more instruments that are not normally found there. Instrumentation consists of the following: * Bb flugelhorn * Eb soprano and Bb cornets * Eb tenor horns * tenor and bass trombones * Bb baritones and euphoniums * Eb and Bb tubas * percussion A brass band typically consists of 28 to 35 players. The British-style brass band is not a new development. In the 1800s and into the 20th century, brass bands were popular in America and England. In the 20th century, the American bands began to transform into the current concert band style that is so popular in the schools today, which includes woodwinds. The British, however, kept the older brass band tradition in the form of company and community-sponsored bands. Until today, the tradition continues with lots of new music being written and bands engaging in fierce competition. Today, the British-style brass band has gained popularity in America, and there are some excellent brass bands around the country. Although there is less emphasis here on competition, organizations like the North American Brass Band Association (NABBA) hold concerts regularly.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    What is a mariachi band?

Mariachi bands are rooted in Mexican culture. Traditional mariachi bands consisted of two or more members playing stringed instruments, wearing regional costumes adapted from the charro (Mexican horseman or cowboy). Modern mariachi bands, which are likely what you’re looking for when searching for a mariachi band for hire, feature at least four members who play stringed instruments (violin, vihuela, bass guitar called guitarron) and one or more trumpets. The costumes have remained the same, but now trumpets are synonymous with mariachi music. Mariachi bands for hire often play a wide range of music, including styles originating from Mexico and adopted from elsewhere. These include jarabes, waltzes, serenades, corridos (Mexican ballads), ranchera, cumbia, and more. Mariachi bands for hire bring a festive and soulful element to a party, birthday, wedding, corporate affair, fundraiser or community event. UNESCO has inscribed mariachi music on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

How much does a mariachi band cost?

A mariachi band will bring your party or event alive with their fabulous costumes, beautiful playing and strong vocals. The cost of a mariachi band for hire will depend on how many players are in the group. Each musician in a performance group needs to be paid, so pricing is usually based on the number of mariachis (musicians), the location of the event (and travel time required), and the length of the performance. Day of the week also affects cost, as does day — Christmas, New Year’s Eve and other major holidays will cost more than regular days. The national average cost for live bands of all types ranges between $740 and $1,200. Depending on where you live and regional rates for performers, you might expect to pay between $65 and $120 per hour, per player. Mariachi groups may have 12-15 players available for performance at one time, depending on your budget. Here are some examples of how the number of players affects average cost:

    • Four mariachis: $300 per hour for weeknights, $400 per hour for weekends.
    • Five mariachis: $350 per hour for weeknights, $400-$450 per hour for weekends. Weekends may have a minimum number of hours.
    • Six mariachis: $400 per hour for weeknights, $450-$500 per hour for weekends.

How many mariachis can a band have?

A mariachi band for hire can have as many players as you like. Modern mariachi bands typically have a minimum of four players with the trumpet playing a vital musical role along with stringed instruments such as the violin, guitarrón (a Mexican bass guitar with a deep body), vihuela (a Spanish stringed guitar) and guitar. Strong vocals are also an important component of mariachi bands for hire, since one or more of the players will be singing during the performance. For a truly spectacular show, you can hire a mariachi band with 15 or more players. The medley of stringed instruments, multiple trumpets, soaring vocals, and even an accordion or harp is powerful and beautiful. Mariachis typically wear the traditional costume of charros — Mexican horsemen. The look is a very regal, monotone suit, often in black or white, with silver adornments and embroidery. Mariachi bands often wear sombreros as well. Traditional mariachi bands were only made up of two or more players, according to a UNESCO report celebrating the cultural heritage of the musical style. The style of music originated in the state of Jalisco. Now the style of music is symbolic of Mexico but is celebrated all over the world, and adds a fabulous vibrancy to any group’s events, parties and weddings.
