Introduction: One of the main things that the kids in the St. George, Utah area have is musical talent. I have been very impressed with every one of my students. One of the biggest developments is using the knowledge available of cognitive learning, and adapting the teaching to an optimal learning process.
Another thing unique to us is that our students love to play and practice because we help them play and learn the songs they want to learn and play! We help students progress with advanced songs, but make sure that they have fun songs that they are interested in so that they have fun practicing rather then the "dragging the feet" feeling. We have genres from Classical to any type of fiddling, Celtic, hoedown, cajun, gypsy, blues and many more!
Seeing my students progress, love violin and fiddle music, and feel great after preforming their songs for their family, friends, and recitals.
That sums up why I teach. One of the personal perks of my job is being able to learn every day. I love learning about the brain, and cognitive learning, creating a model of learning to play the violin, focused on the understanding we have of the mind. This has been the focus of my study and teaching development. I have seen significant improvement in my students learning and skill developments.
Last but not least, I love performing for others, and getting my students in front of their parents and friends playing the songs they have worked on with diligence.
