Julie has been a great partner in business. I always feel like I have a million things going on, and it's nice to know someone like Julie is out there that can help alleviate tax/accounting concerns. When I first met Julie, I had a jumbled set of paperwork and records for my small business. The next time we met, she had organized everything perfectly for easy reference! Julie offers great value and doesn't "nickel and dime" her clients for every question or bit of advice that is needed. I really appreciate Julie's work and only hope she doesn't retire too soon :)

Jennifer is very knowledgeable and helpful. She set up an S Corporation for my company and helped me lay out the accounting methods that worked best for my businesses' unique needs. Because of her insights, I've saved more on taxes than ever before and my business is running smoother than ever without me having to take time away from what I do best to fumble around with numbers in a field I know little about. I've been a satisfied customer for over 4 years and would recommend JCM accounting and consulting to anyone!!

Meeting an accountant for the first time can be an anxious and stressful time due to the nature of tax preparation. Bill was extremely friendly and knowledgable. This combination put me at ease right from the start. Bill listened to me and my situation and was very thorough in my tax preparation. I am glad I found him, and would recommend anyone I know to let Bill take the stress out of tax preparation.

Ken got back to me right away to schedule our initial appointment. He came to my home, which was great, so I could fetch documents, etc, as needed. I was afraid I would have to pay so much in taxes due to adding a new home based business this last year, but he worked his magic and ended up finding me a refund! It was well worth his fee to take away my fear of negotiating the IRS system on my own and to use his wealth of experience as a CPA. I think I have found my accountant for life.

When it comes to Work Quality, Professionalism, responsiveness, value and punctuality my response would be the same in all five areas....nothing short of Excellent. I've used him for several years now, and I'm continually impressed. From the beginning process, right down to the presentation of the final product. The whole process is pleasurable with Dwight, that is, if you can call taxes pleasurable. He always makes himself available throughout the year. Just this past month, I called him up, and he was right there with the answer I needed. Value, based upon your financial obligation to him is amazing. I would be willing to pay more (I hope he doesn't charge me more now :) ) Here's the kicker. He is my ex-wife's husband and I trust him explicitly with some of the most important and confidential information concerning my life. How many of you would allow your ex-spouses new mate to be trusted with what he sees? I trust him and would associate my name with any thing he puts his name on. He really is that good!! I am so glad I decided to go with Perfect Payroll & Bookkeeping! Running a small business has been a lot of fun, but I have never enjoyed the accounting part that comes with it. Karen's attention to detail and thoroughness has allowed me to place my focus where it matters most to me and my little business without the added stress of "the books" on my mind. I cannot be happier with Perfect Payroll & Bookkeeping!

Accounting, or accountancy, is the measurement, processing and communication of financial information about economic entities. Accounting, which has been called the "language of business", measures the results of an organization's economic activities and conveys this information to a variety of users including investors, creditors, management, and regulators. Practitioners of accounting are known as accountants. The terms accounting and financial reporting are often used as synonyms. Accounting can be divided into several fields including financial accounting, management accounting, auditing, and tax accounting. Financial accounting focuses on the reporting of an organization's financial information, including the preparation of financial statements to external users of the information, such as investors, regulators and suppliers and management accounting focuses on the measurement, analysis and reporting of information for internal use by management. The recording of financial transactions, so that summaries of the financials may be presented in financial reports, is known as bookkeeping, of which double-entry bookkeeping is the most common system.

I am very experienced and very accurate in my work. I am a guru with numbers and understand accounting procedures very well.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to hire an accountant?

Accountants’ rates vary based on their education, licenses, experience, and the work for which they are being hired. An accountant may charge an hourly rate when a company or individual needs their services on a short-term basis, such as when performing an audit or requesting assistance setting up a financial database or process. Hourly rates can range as widely as $40 per hour to $300 or more per hour, depending on your geographic location and the accountant. Check out the average hourly rate for accounting services in your region.

Accountants may offer a package rate for weekly, monthly or annual services to reward ongoing customers. Many accountants offer online services where small businesses can access online accounting software and payroll assistance, and the accountant — for a monthly or other recurring fee — provides financial analysis and reporting of their numbers. For basic monthly accounting services, an accountant might charge anywhere from $75 to $500 or more, depending on what was included in a given package, the size of the client’s business, and the complexity of work requested. Nationally, full-time staff accountants earn between $40,000 and $80,000, depending on experience and other factors.

    What is an accountant?

Accountants are financial professionals who have received an accounting degree from a four-year university or college. By trade, accountants prepare, maintain and examine the financial statements of an individual, business or institution. An accountant prepares reports for tax purposes and can also perform audits of public companies. Common tasks include creating budgets, analyzing profits and losses of a company, processing payroll, preparing financial statements for company leadership, and creating and maintaining financial database systems for a company.

Accountants do not automatically have a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation unless they have passed the Uniform CPA Examination and received the proper license. Regardless of whether they are CPA certified or not, accountants can assist businesses and individuals with bookkeeping and financial reporting, while CPAs are more knowledgeable in tax codes as a result of the CPA licensing examination and continuing education requirements. CPAs are also eligible to represent clients before the IRS if audit support is required, while a non-CPA accountant is not. Academic background, years in the field and professional reputation all can affect an accountant’s rates.
