It is very clear that Emily knows what she is talking about. I have taken from other voice teachers here and there, and after my first lesson with Emily I learned SO MUCH that I could already start applying just walking out of my first lesson. It is clear she has well beyond the training and the experience than a lot of teachers out there. She is so musically genius, and very good at explaining something-be it vocal anatomy or something musical. And she has had so much experience professionally performing that she taught me so many details about microphones, and performing with a live band. It is so nice to have a teacher who accompanys you too. She helped me stylize my voice as well. I don't know what Emily can't teach you!

We couldn't have been happier with Jon Burgoyne and his band! They know how to entertain a crowd and keep the night fun and exciting. We had a country themed party and so they played some songs that fit that theme. Jon was awesome to work with and has amazing vocal/guitar talent. We were impressed and will definitely ask them to come again if we have other events! We would recommend him to anyone!!!

Emily and her band were better than I could have imagined! Our couples song was "I want you bad" by the Offspring and she nailed it!!! From Frank Sinatra to Justin Timberlake, they can play it all. They were so upbeat and kept the dancing going all night! My advice, book a live band for any event and book these guys while you can!!

Thanks to Bennie, my wedding day turned out amazing! I loved the band that he found for me (Friends and Fellows). They're amazing people and musicians! The only issue that I had with Bennie was a lack of communication. I only had his email address and sometimes he was a little slow to reply, and he didn't answer all the questions that I asked. Other than that, I would recommend hiring Bennie (and Friends and Fellows)! He's awesome!!

I have hired Stephen Hughes in three different capacities. I hired him to teach my drum line for marching band season, and then hired him to teach private lessons to a group of students. I have also hired to him to perform with a professional wind orchestra as a percussionist. He is an outstanding educator with a very thorough understanding of how to communicate with students, how to work with colleagues, and how to develop and implement a plan. His pedagogy is sound, and his results are thorough. As a performer, he is very trustworthy on all different elements of the percussion section. His rehearsal demeanor is impeccable, and his preparation skills are thorough. He can be trusted implicitly as a performer and educator.

I saw CryWolf perform at an annual private event a while back and ended up hiring them for my own party. When our guests saw them setting up with acoustic guitars they thought we were in for some easy listening. Of course I knew better because I had seen them before, and all I can tell you is they rocked the place. Everyone absolutely loved their song selections. They don't play the same over-played, old, and worn out songs that other full rock bands cover. They weren’t too loud and they weren’t too soft, but they do make a lot of noise for 3 guys. The lead singer has an excellent voice and the guitar players are very, very good together, with excellent harmonies. They might not be the cheapest band around, but they're worth every penny. They even played longer than the time we agreed upon. Its easy to see they enjoy what they do. They are professional and are very easy to work with. Its hard to say that their version of Hotel California is better than the original, but…and their covers of the Chili Peppers were our favorites! They cover Collective Soul, Incubus, and America very well. They did everything very well. I wouldn’t hesitate to hire them as they have become our favorite band to play at our annual event. You won’t be disappointed!

The Blue Diamonds played for our wedding reception and it couldn't have been a better fit. We wanted to have dancing and their volume was perfect for it. They have many band members/instruments and sound very good! Even when not a lot of dancing was happening people were getting up to dance with their kids. They also have an impressively large repertoire of songs to play. We were even able to request a few personal songs that they took the time to learn in time for the reception. We were impressed that as soon as we confirmed that they would be playing for us, Bob took the time to go to our venue and make sure they were aware of everything needed to do a good job!

I recently had the great pleasure of booking Tom's band, "Rumor Has It" for a large PTA fundraiser I organized in West Jordan. I have worked with a number of great local bands over the years while at KSL Radio for various promotional events. During that time I came to appreciate three things in a band that are a must for any event. Professionalism. Musicianship. Charisma. I am happy to say that this terrific group has all three of these qualities. Our event was unusual for a PTA fundraiser as we had a large muscle car show, a monster truck, many superheroes, Star Wars and Disney characters, three food trucks along with a traditional fun run. I had been searching for quite a while to find live band with no luck. With less than five days before the party, I discovered Rumor Has It. I spoke to Tom and took a chance to ask. To my surprise- and shock- the group agreed to come to our rescue. The day of, Tom arrived more than an hour in advance to check out the location. The other band members arrived to set up and they were all so warm and upbeat. They were genuinely honored to be there and treated our event with such respect and enthusiasm. They looked great and sounded even better. When they began to play, you could feel the energy rise. Everyone was majorly impressed. We estimate there were over 700 people in attendance that night- more than any fundraiser the school has ever had. The female lead singer was fabulous as she and the band rocked the night with a terrific set of hits from the 70's, 80's, 90's and today. People danced as they waited in line at the food trucks. The kids especially got into it! Needless to say, our PTA fundraiser was a massive success. Rumor Has It absolutely animated the evening bringing so much life and fun to our party. If you are looking for a professional band of superb musicians with class and charisma- look no further than Rumor Has It! Sincerely, Aaron

AMAZING!! They were so great! So professional, great musicians very professional! If you are looking to hire a Mariachi Band you won't go wrong with Mariachi Alama Ranchera. I would suggest sending them a list of songs you would like for them to play ahead of time but also they will do request when they get to the party. 10/10 I would recommend!

    About

As both a band leader and DJ I am able to provide musical entertainment for all aspects of an event from start to finish. For some events, I DJ and play the saxophone. Other events I bring my band and also DJ. Gold Standard is comprised of three seasoned jazz musicians: Conn Curran (vocals) Bart Olson (drums) and Rob Bennion (DJ/Sax/Flute) with an affinity for vintage jazz style and electronic exploration. They are known for taking current popular hits and turning them into golden crooner renditions- combining serious DJ grooves with impressive acoustic chops. Their music spans from the classic sounds of Frank Sinatra, to a dance-infused electronic version of John Legend. They can turn a concert or event into a speakeasy or a dance club, or both.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    What is a mariachi band?

Mariachi bands are rooted in Mexican culture. Traditional mariachi bands consisted of two or more members playing stringed instruments, wearing regional costumes adapted from the charro (Mexican horseman or cowboy). Modern mariachi bands, which are likely what you’re looking for when searching for a mariachi band for hire, feature at least four members who play stringed instruments (violin, vihuela, bass guitar called guitarron) and one or more trumpets. The costumes have remained the same, but now trumpets are synonymous with mariachi music. Mariachi bands for hire often play a wide range of music, including styles originating from Mexico and adopted from elsewhere. These include jarabes, waltzes, serenades, corridos (Mexican ballads), ranchera, cumbia, and more. Mariachi bands for hire bring a festive and soulful element to a party, birthday, wedding, corporate affair, fundraiser or community event. UNESCO has inscribed mariachi music on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

How much does a mariachi band cost?

A mariachi band will bring your party or event alive with their fabulous costumes, beautiful playing and strong vocals. The cost of a mariachi band for hire will depend on how many players are in the group. Each musician in a performance group needs to be paid, so pricing is usually based on the number of mariachis (musicians), the location of the event (and travel time required), and the length of the performance. Day of the week also affects cost, as does day — Christmas, New Year’s Eve and other major holidays will cost more than regular days. The national average cost for live bands of all types ranges between $740 and $1,200. Depending on where you live and regional rates for performers, you might expect to pay between $65 and $120 per hour, per player. Mariachi groups may have 12-15 players available for performance at one time, depending on your budget. Here are some examples of how the number of players affects average cost:

    • Four mariachis: $300 per hour for weeknights, $400 per hour for weekends.
    • Five mariachis: $350 per hour for weeknights, $400-$450 per hour for weekends. Weekends may have a minimum number of hours.
    • Six mariachis: $400 per hour for weeknights, $450-$500 per hour for weekends.

How many mariachis can a band have?

A mariachi band for hire can have as many players as you like. Modern mariachi bands typically have a minimum of four players with the trumpet playing a vital musical role along with stringed instruments such as the violin, guitarrón (a Mexican bass guitar with a deep body), vihuela (a Spanish stringed guitar) and guitar. Strong vocals are also an important component of mariachi bands for hire, since one or more of the players will be singing during the performance. For a truly spectacular show, you can hire a mariachi band with 15 or more players. The medley of stringed instruments, multiple trumpets, soaring vocals, and even an accordion or harp is powerful and beautiful. Mariachis typically wear the traditional costume of charros — Mexican horsemen. The look is a very regal, monotone suit, often in black or white, with silver adornments and embroidery. Mariachi bands often wear sombreros as well. Traditional mariachi bands were only made up of two or more players, according to a UNESCO report celebrating the cultural heritage of the musical style. The style of music originated in the state of Jalisco. Now the style of music is symbolic of Mexico but is celebrated all over the world, and adds a fabulous vibrancy to any group’s events, parties and weddings.
