Introduction: When it comes to Martial Arts and self defense - I have many years of technical training and experience in several different martial arts styles. I don't train a particular "style" of fighting. I teach you practical, no-nonsense, street applicable self defense so that you can take care of yourself, protect and defend yourself and get out safely. I teach fighting techniques that will save your life. It doesn't take 2 years to learn this stuff like it can in a school. You'd be amazed what you'll walk away knowing in 2 to 3 sessions. But I warn you - you'll be hooked! When it comes to personal training - I never want to impugn anyone else's work. I try my best to respect others and the way they wish to do business. But to be honest, I've been in so many gyms in the DC area over the years and I can't tell you how many "certified" trainers don't know what they are doing. Understanding body mechanics takes reading and learning. It's not a weekend workshop. When I work with someone who's healthy and just wants results, I can tailer a program that's fun. But I have the experience and understanding of what needs to be altered when someone has personal goals and wants to fix a problem area, or if someone comes with a medical condition like bad knees, a bad back, Diabetes or a heart condition, for example. I am all about my client's wellbeing and getting results. What I like most is when I have a client that's "ALL IN" when it comes to the plan. When I have a client that writes down notes from our session and spends an extra 2 or 3 days a week practicing (self def/martial arts) or working out (cardio, etc) before we get back together. I can't care more about you than you care about yourself - but unfortunately too many clients come to me because their doctor tells them they have to change their health or they will die. Doing what it takes to change your health is a choice. I keep it very real with clients and they appreciate it. But by and large, the best part is a client who really wants results and goes for it!

I have trained with Rick for about 10 years in kickboxing, self defense, and done many of his boot camps. His training is exceptional. I am a soccer player and his workouts have improved every aspect of my game. He has taught me self defense so I feel comfortable and safer in any situation. I have my kids training with Rick as well and they love it. He's very patient, knowledgeable, and always has an answer for all my health and fitness questions. I would highly recommend Rick to anyone and will continue my training w him!! He can help anyone in any area to improve their health, fitness, self defense, which helps improve your mind and stress levels!!!

Having done martial arts training with Derrick has been an amazing experience! He taught me how to throw a proper punch/kick. He teaches you the whys of what he's training you to do. He also showed me exercises that could improve my punching/kicking power. I'd tell anyone to train with him. The money will be well worth it. Im really glad that I never attended a traditional martial arts school. From what I've seen of people who attend traditional martial arts schools, I'd say Derrick's philosophy is far superior. J.
