Hello! I'm Amy Halvorsen. I have been teaching ESOL for over twenty years. I have taught all ages and English levels. I have taught ESOL at Northern VA Community College for five years. I currently teach grade 5 ESOL at an elementary school in Manassas, VA. I love teaching English and learning about other cultures. I always make lessons fun and interesting! I have two Master's Degrees and lots of experience teaching. I am located in Northern Virginia. I look forward to hearing from you! My rate is $65 and up, depending upon where you live or where we meet for lessons. I do not travel to DC. Serious inquiries only please.

Amy is working weekly with my 5-year old to get her confident and comfortable with letters/sounds/reading basics and makes it fun! Amy is patient, nurturing, and up-with the times on best practices for teaching new readers since she herself is an elementary teacher. This was Amy's first time to our location and she was approximately 15 minutes late. Unfortunately, I did not get a chance to meet with her. What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I charge $60 per hour if you meet me. If I have to drive to your location, I will add on a travel expense for gas.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I always want my lessons to be interesting and informative. If I am working with a young child, they need to feel like my lesson is fun while they are learning. We read books and then we play reading games to reinforce the new words. I want learning to be a positive experience for my students!
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have two master's degrees. I am a certified elementary school teacher. I have also taught at NOVA Community College. I have taught in both Belgium and in Norway.
