FAQs
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I started out as a graphic artist and found I was spending quite a bit of time correcting errors in content and then suggesting better ways to write the content. Eventually client started asking me to write for them. So I moved over to the writing side.
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Have a clear understanding of what you wish to produce and describe it. For example: "I need content for a booklet of around 15 or 20 pages (more or less) covering wineries in Loudon county. The writer will need to visit and interview around five local vintners (I'll provide a list) and also write captions for photos taken by a photographer I will hire. The booklet is for our local tourism office and the audience will be travelers who like wine. Please quote for content as well as travel expenses." Compare that above example to this: "I'm working on a winery project and need a writer." The more info you can provide, the better match you'll get.
- What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?
Writing successfully for others is enjoyable, but it's also hard work. A successful writer must listen to and organize lots of details and then shape them in a way that works for the client.
