Professor Carvallo is absolutely wonderful. She is gentle and patient with her students and goes well above and beyond what you would normally expect from a teacher. She prepares extensive supplemental materials, including hands-on practical exercises, to help her students really learn. I have taken two semesters do Spanish from her in courses where approximately half of the students were native English speakers and half were from Asian countries; she was so good as an instructor and so focused on each individual student's needs that she successfully taught all of us, whatever the background. A really phenomenal achievement to successfully teach students from all different kinds of language backgrounds at the same time.

Senora Carvallo is an excellent Spanish teacher. Her greatest aspect is that she is extremely passionate about teaching and loves her students. She always wants the best for them and tries to help each student become stronger in their weakest areas, whether it be to encourage someone to speak in class or to write certain exercises down to practice spelling. Her care for her students and the subject matter are expressed in many ways. She is always well prepared for class, often bringing handouts and worksheets that she had carefully crafted to help us specifically with the concepts that we struggled with. She also changes her teaching style to cater to our needs. For example, my class could not understand how to form large numbers. After creating several worksheets with numbers, finding several texts that used numbers, and even practicing them with us aloud, she decided to have class competitions to see who could say the most numbers in Spanish. By recognizing the competitive nature of my class, she was able to help us learn our numbers backwards and forwards! Another great aspect about Senora Carvallo is that she understands the difficulty of becoming fluent in another language. Her own experience enables her to teach the language in a very simple and easy manner and understand which concepts will be difficult for us. By the end of the year, I was able to have basic conversations in Spanish, understand a good amount of spoken English, and could read some newspaper articles from Chile. Overall, a very qualified teacher.

I took a semester-long Spanish class under Senora Carvallo. She possesses a certain love for what she teaches, and actively engages with the students. She goes above and beyond the curriculum, sharing personal and cultural insights into the Spanish language. While she maintains an engaging and fun atmosphere, she also brings a high level of professionalism and respect for her students. Ms. Carvallo did an excellent job teaching us how to juggle and quickly understand both the written and oral aspects of the language through fun activities and research projects. She was the teacher who first introduced me to Spanish, and who showed me the beauty and depth of the Spanish language. I would highly recommend Senora Carvallo as a Spanish teacher.

Paula tutored my wife and me in Spanish in the spring of 2015. Paula was a great teacher and did a marvelous job of teaching the two of us. She was very knowledgeable and flexible, adjusting the class to meet our learning styles and needs!
