Introduction: I am the mother of a dyslexic child and I understand first hand the frustration a parent (and child) feel when watching their child struggle to read, spell or comprehend what seems to come natural to many other students. Not only do I teach students how to read and spell but I also encourage them to want to learn and not feel that they are inferior or "dumb" as many dyslexic students are made to feel. Learning is serious but it can and it has to also be fun and engaging. Often times dyslexic students are so misunderstood in school and are thought to be lazy or irresponsible so they don't often get the academic recognition and awards as many of their peers may get. I believe in rewarding my students for their hard work, good character and determination. I started tutoring over 20 years ago in various elementary subjects. However, after watching my own child struggle for years and wanting so desperately to help him succeed, I became a Certified Dyslexia Tutor so now my main focus in tutoring students in Reading Comprehension, Spelling and Dyslexia Tutoring. I help parents and guardians understand their child's needs and offer support when it comes to having a voice in their child's 504 Plan, IE Plan or special services. I don't know everything but one thing I do know is that each child learns differently. There are so many factors involved that effect a child's learning capacity. Some of those factors are having the right teacher, the right environment and especially the right teaching method. I love that "light bulb" moment when my students finally 'get it' and understand that they CAN learn when these factors are adjusted. This encourages students to want to read, learn and succeed even more. I am here to help your child succeed.
