Sorry this pro can’t do your job, but we know other pros who can.
Introduction: I have had intensive training throughout my career in pedagogical techniques as well as the fine points of pianistic technique and expression. I search for answers to problems and guide the student according to his or her own physiology. Because music is such an important part of my life, it gives me great satisfaction to share my knowledge and passion with others. Each student is a source of new experiences for me as a teacher.

Mrs. Betty was highly recommended by our neighbour to teach my daughter Grace piano lesson early last year. After over one year of Grace's wonderful learning experience with Mrs. Betty, we can recommend Mrs. Betty to anyone in Richmond area without any reservation. Grace started her piano lesson two months after her fifth birthday, and now she can play pretty sophisticated pieces. Both my wife and I know nothing about playing piano, but we are very aware of Grace's progress, especially when we compare the recorded videos of her practice at home over the year. We have to credit Grace's progress largely to the outstanding teaching of Mrs. Betty. She gave clear instruction and expectation in language easily understandable to Kindergarten age kid. She encourages close cooperation of parent in the whole learning, especially at early learning stage. The candy (goldfish cookie for Grace) point award system worked very well with Grace, encouraging her to practice both in the morning and in the evening. The occasional 5 points award for initiative can keep Grace in high spirit of playing for many days. In the last 14 months of learning, Grace attended 3 recitals, one playathon, and one Junior Festival, under Mrs. Betty's arrangement. And there will be a Guild Audition one month away. In our opinion, all these stage performance experience is crucial to Grace's learning. She can feel her own progress and has the hope of playing piano as well as other senior students of Mrs. Betty's class in the future. We had anticipated some complain from Grace for playing piano. After all it needs lots of practice, and many kids of our friends gave it up in one or two years. Grace only complained once that playing piano is boring. And now she think playing piano is a (happy) part of her life, at least for years to come in our opinion. This positive feeling of Grace to piano playing is also largely due to Mrs. Betty's respect to student's learning curve. We observed that she did many things to mitigate the pain of slow progress in certain stages. She urged us as parent not to push too much in certain time. On the other hand, if needed, she gave a second lesson in one week, in an effort to overcome the barrier in Grace's learning of certain piece. We really appreciate Mrs. Betty's keen on student's progress. We cherish the wonderful opportunity for Grace to learn paino playing from Mrs. Betty, and hope more kids can be benefited from her many years of excellent teaching.

Thank you for this very extensive review! Your attitude as a parent (and your wife) has been a large component in Grace's success. I look forward to many years with this dear young lady!

My daughter has been taking lessons with Ms Spiers for the past year. In that time, she has learned to read sheet music and is making great progress in her piano playing skills. She has had multiple opportunities to perform and participate in music festivals. Ms Spiers has been a kind, nurturing and effective teacher. My daughter loves and respects her. She is clearly a seasoned pro.

My child started lessons about two months ago. She is already playing several introductory songs and learning how to read music. The mixture of learning to read music and playing it is working well for her. Mrs. Spiers is professional, dedicated, and highly knowledgeable.

FAQs

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Be honest about what you want from piano lessons and about any special problems you or your child has. We need to get to know each other completely and early on so that we use our time as wisely as possible to achieve the results that you want.

  • What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

I hope customers know how much I care about their children (or about them as adult students), and how much thought and research I put into selecting material and teaching tricks to help each student be successful and enjoy the challenge of managing ten fingers, the entire body, and the brain!
