Introduction: I have never been required to have a background check done for working as an independent residential and commercial construction estimator. I also am not required to need a license to perform an estimate for anyone. I provide a quality service, I have estimated to contract millions of dollars of construction throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia. My primary concern is to provide a quality product, BEFORE the project commences, as the owner knows up front exactly what the associated costs shall be, not after the construction begins, when a change order could conceivably appear, when the cost of the project usually increases. Exception: when the owner wants to make a change. Proof is that I would not have done what I have when providing the service for as long as I have had I not done exactly what I said I would do. The thing I like most about putting together a quality estimate is that each project is different, it has its' own set of dynamics and challenges. I am challenged in that if I cannot help a home owner or business realize a dream or satisfactorily take care of a problem, I have not done my job.

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I do not have any complicated pricing system for my service. We would determine exactly what I would do based upon the clients needs and wants depending on the scope of work to be provided.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I would always want to further educate myself, if there was something that has changed in the process as I know it, or continue to update myself in the technology currently available. I do remember what it was like to do things before the fax machine.
How did you get started doing this type of work?
I have always been interested in how something could be built or constructed. As a young boy, my buddies in the neighborhood built a three story tree fort, a below ground fort with a log and plywood roof, and would collect soft drink bottles taken to the neighborhood 7-11 Store, trade them in for 2 cents per bottle, go to the hardware store across the street to purchase nails to build our forts. We would also hand-carry scrap lumber and plywood home from residential construction sites on homes being built just several blocks from our construction sites. That interest has transcended my life.
