Steve was great for our wedding cocktail party. He played "our" song beautifully and for hours kept the music going. His guitar and singing skills are great.

Jarrett was the music director for our wedding and we couldn't have made a better choice! Our ceremony was filled with songs from many different genres of music and Jarrett covered them all like the pro he is. Three years later our guests literally still talk about how amazing our wedding music was. Despite his incredible talent, Jarrett is down to earth and wonderful to work with and definitely someone you can trust. Ronald & Penny Greene

As a full time musician myself, I know quality live music and talent when I see it, and Matt does not disappoint! He knows a ton of songs from all decades and puts cool spins on them. He plays a lot of songs that you love but would never think you'd here someone cover, which makes him standout among your typical cover musicians. Matt has a great voice and acoustic guitar chops. But the most important thing is that he is very entertaining and makes sure the audience is having a great time! Being a fan of the 90s, I requested a random song that no one ever knows, and Matt played it perfectly! When it comes to 80s pop and 90s rock, he' got it covered. He will definitely hold your attention and make you stay for one more drink (or three one four). I totally recommend that you book him for your bar or event if you know what's good for you!

We weren't sure what to expect booking a band without having met them, but New Legacy Jazz Band was definitely worth it! They made our wedding so much more fun, with none of the typical wedding band cheesiness many come to expect. We were very impressed with the samples posted on their website, and even more so with the easy communication with our contact Alan. We could tell they had done this many times in the past - every time we sent a question (such as whether they could play music from a CD, or would be able to make announcements), he responded promptly and assured us that all of our needs were covered. The band was able to do everything we hoped for and more! We had 165 guests, and packed the dance floor even at 1 in the afternoon. We had been so worried about people not dancing that early, but the music was so good it was hard not to! In addition, Alan was friendly and personable at the mic making announcements and cuing the events of the afternoon, giving us exactly what we wanted despite the vague descriptions we had sent. We heard a LOT of compliments about the music from our guests, and are so glad we booked New Legacy for our wedding. We would recommend them in a heartbeat - the music was great, the energy was high, and they were so very easy to work with.

Hired Rock X on two occasions for a large family BBQ. They entertained the group well, sounded great and came with all the equipment needed. The entire experience was great.

Eddie's Mom

    About

Eddie's Mom Band performs songs from the days of analog to today's digital classics. We're an acoustic cover band that resuscitates the songs of the past, minus the hiss and pop of a turntable or tape deck, as well as venturing through today's eclectic offerings. You might recognize members of Eddie's Mom Band as former members of other local bands, or maybe you just recognize us as your co-worker or neighbor. That's right! Most mornings we don the costumes of everyday Americans, but every now and then we transform into jukebox heroes. Looking for a change of pace and some inspiration, we've combined our decades of musical experience, reckless abandon, and joie de vivre to create this adventure we call "Eddie's Mom". Please give us a chance to perform at your restaurant, winery, bar, event or festival.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    What is a mariachi band?

Mariachi bands are rooted in Mexican culture. Traditional mariachi bands consisted of two or more members playing stringed instruments, wearing regional costumes adapted from the charro (Mexican horseman or cowboy). Modern mariachi bands, which are likely what you’re looking for when searching for a mariachi band for hire, feature at least four members who play stringed instruments (violin, vihuela, bass guitar called guitarron) and one or more trumpets. The costumes have remained the same, but now trumpets are synonymous with mariachi music. Mariachi bands for hire often play a wide range of music, including styles originating from Mexico and adopted from elsewhere. These include jarabes, waltzes, serenades, corridos (Mexican ballads), ranchera, cumbia, and more. Mariachi bands for hire bring a festive and soulful element to a party, birthday, wedding, corporate affair, fundraiser or community event. UNESCO has inscribed mariachi music on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

How many mariachis can a band have?

A mariachi band for hire can have as many players as you like. Modern mariachi bands typically have a minimum of four players with the trumpet playing a vital musical role along with stringed instruments such as the violin, guitarrón (a Mexican bass guitar with a deep body), vihuela (a Spanish stringed guitar) and guitar. Strong vocals are also an important component of mariachi bands for hire, since one or more of the players will be singing during the performance. For a truly spectacular show, you can hire a mariachi band with 15 or more players. The medley of stringed instruments, multiple trumpets, soaring vocals, and even an accordion or harp is powerful and beautiful. Mariachis typically wear the traditional costume of charros — Mexican horsemen. The look is a very regal, monotone suit, often in black or white, with silver adornments and embroidery. Mariachi bands often wear sombreros as well. Traditional mariachi bands were only made up of two or more players, according to a UNESCO report celebrating the cultural heritage of the musical style. The style of music originated in the state of Jalisco. Now the style of music is symbolic of Mexico but is celebrated all over the world, and adds a fabulous vibrancy to any group’s events, parties and weddings.

How much does a mariachi band cost?

A mariachi band will bring your party or event alive with their fabulous costumes, beautiful playing and strong vocals. The cost of a mariachi band for hire will depend on how many players are in the group. Each musician in a performance group needs to be paid, so pricing is usually based on the number of mariachis (musicians), the location of the event (and travel time required), and the length of the performance. Day of the week also affects cost, as does day — Christmas, New Year’s Eve and other major holidays will cost more than regular days. The national average cost for live bands of all types ranges between $740 and $1,200. Depending on where you live and regional rates for performers, you might expect to pay between $65 and $120 per hour, per player. Mariachi groups may have 12-15 players available for performance at one time, depending on your budget. Here are some examples of how the number of players affects average cost:

    • Four mariachis: $300 per hour for weeknights, $400 per hour for weekends.
    • Five mariachis: $350 per hour for weeknights, $400-$450 per hour for weekends. Weekends may have a minimum number of hours.
    • Six mariachis: $400 per hour for weeknights, $450-$500 per hour for weekends.
