What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I read the latest information released by the College Board and other testing bodies. I also am a member of several Linked In groups which discuss relevant changes. I am currently studying a sample new format PSAT for Fall 2015 testing.
How did you get started doing this type of work?
I needed something I could do part time while I raised my children. I started as an academic tutor in 1985 and expanded to standardized test preparation later that year.
What types of customers have you worked with?
At a typical first lesson I sit with the student and review a diagnostic exam with him/her and find out how much of the trouble is weak strategy, poor reading skills, math deficits and so on. I make recommendations as to how to change the strategy and teach missing information. Quite often the student will perform better on the very next practice test.
Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?
Jack met with me two times (an hour each time) and raised his science score from 28 to 36.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Look for a professional with good recommendations. My Linkedin account shows the great respect my clients have for my work.
What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?
I truly care about my students. Even if they are disappointed in their performance on a particular test, I want to talk with them to figure out what the next step should be.
