FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I like to negotiate price with my clients, but generally, I charge $35 to $50 an hour for copyediting.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I read well-edited publications and the dictionary, and I take notes.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I began my career as a copy editor for the Department of Anatomy at Georgetown University School of Medicine. (The head of the department, a family friend, offered me the job because he knew I had majored in English and minored in biology.) Soon realizing that I wanted to "get into publishing," I headed to New York. Three weeks later, I was an editorial assistant at Macmillan!
