Introduction: I travel to you and teach from your home or online which makes things flexible. I also tailor my instruction to the individual, paying attention to how they learn and what interests the student. I have been playing music for 35 years and have been a teacher for over 16 years. My students range in age from 7 to 70. I studied music at Virginia Commonwealth University and play in a band called Glass Twin that I've been with for over 10 years. I've played jazz rock funk and bluegrass. I love teaching and can't wait to see what makes you tick. I really enjoy those "ah ha" moments when the light bulb comes on and I get to figure out the puzzle of how to get someone to learn something new especially if they didn't think they could do it. I offer discounts for 6 month and 12 month packages. Lessons are held weekly and are charged monthly. You get 4 free lessons a year with the monthly rate. The 6 month discount gives you 5 free lessons per year and the year package gives you 6 free lessons per year

I worked with Marshall as my guitar instructor for 6 months (only 6 months cause I moved!!). He is an extremely skilled musician and instructor. Marshall has the ability to listen and understand where I was in the learning curve. When I wanted theory, we discussed theory. We also worked on the songs I wanted and he suggested learning songs he knew I would be interested in. He didn't waste time after he knew I understood and picked up the material we had gone over. I would recommend Marshall to anyone interested in having fun learning music!

How did you get started doing this type of work?
I had a friend who had been teaching for a few years move away and gave me a few of his students to see how I liked it. It was an immediate fit from the first lesson I knew how to help them get better.
Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?
I had the opportunity to work with a girl, who’s gotten a lot of her basics down on guitar, start really helping her get familiar with the neck of her guitar and some more in depth theory. What was exciting though was helping her learn the first solo of The Allman Brothers song Blue Sky. She really nailed it!
