FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
$40/hr
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I first assess what the student already knows. If he or she has had former training, what that training has been will determine how we move forward. I also assess the personality, taking into account how the student can best learn. We will undoubtedly need to address issues of good form, but only as much as I feel the student can be happy receiving without being discouraged. We will definitely start up a regimen of scales, arpeggios and thirds, pick out an appropriate etude book to work on as well as an appropriate piece. If the student is a complete beginner, I spend the first lesson focusing on how to hold the violin and how to hold the bow, 2 distinctly different skills. By the end of the lesson, he or she has started developing both of these skills and learned to pizzicato (pluck) an A major scale and arpeggio. By the second lesson, again depending on the student, I may get him or her started plucking a Bach Minuet, allowing him or her to 1) get a feel for where all these elementary skills are taking him/her, and 2) focus on left hand form, action, and awareness of good intonation.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I received a MMus in violin performance from SUNY at Stonybrook and have spent my life as a symphony violinist. I attended a conference in Suzuki training, which i incorporate into my teaching, blending it with my traditional violin education.
