FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
$20.00 for typical students....45 minute lesson, including furnishing all materials 30 minute lessons are usually recommended for special needs students @ $20.00 and materials furnished
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
The first step is always getting to know my new student...his\her goals, favorite music genres, and why each student has chosen to learn the art of playing the piano. Next, we do an evaluation of the student's background (if they've taken lessons before and if so, the level attained.) If a student is brand new, I then decide which arranger\composer best suits this particular person's theory, technic and dexterity abilities. After purchasing the appropriate materials, we get started on an exciting, motivating and individually designed lesson plan. Sometimes it's important to incorporate games, other times I use work sheets, the student's own composition talents or combinations of all! Computer games are also encouraged as a supplement only!! Practice time for each student varies, and I never insists that all spend the same amount of time; typical students should be more clinical with each practice, whereas special needs clients may need to use shorter time spans. Every student is given an "assignment book" which we use as our guide; however, as specific problem areas arise, our lesson focus may change on the spot. Everyone may not learn the same, but everyone can learn something new each week :)
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am a former elementary teacher who also taught secondary Journalism and English. These experiences are invaluable in "teaching" me how differently children and young adults learn. My focus was always on the individual more than accomplishing a lesson plan for the day! It usually worked so much better that way. I also have spent the last 15 years working with special kids and adults in various capacities, including music activities, and it has bee the delight of my life. For forty plus years I have been a church pianist, organist and choir director (including children's choirs), and these opportunities have grown my God given talents tremendously. I am also a published author and had my poem, "I Like Being Me" set to music as well. I've written several children's songs for church and pre-school use.
