Welcome to What's The Occasion Photography! We (Thomas and Amanda) are a couple based in Virginia but we travel all across the East Coast. Together, we are a photography team that specializes in: Couples, Engagement, Sports, Children, and Lifestyle Photography. Our adventure started out of our mutual love for photography. We both firmly believe photos are more than just a simple click on a phone. They are a reflection of that person's soul. They remind us who we are, where we have been, the people that matter most to us, and most importantly a memory that we will always cherish.

My husband, 7 month old baby and I had a photoshoot with Thomas yesterday and it exceeded our expectations! Thomas was so kind, professional, and easy to work with from start to finish. He recommended the most beautiful outdoor location and made the entire experience feel relaxed and natural.
He was especially patient with our baby and somehow managed to capture so many genuine moments that we’ll cherish forever. Even just seeing the unedited previews during the shoot, we were blown away. The photos already looked absolutely amazing and we cannot wait to see the final gallery.

We had such a great experience with Whats the Occasion Photography! He was incredibly patient with our three kids and really understood their needs, which made the whole session feel relaxed and enjoyable. We had a larger group of eight with two different family units, and he made sure to capture all the groupings we asked for without making it feel rushed or stressful.
He was responsive, on time, and delivered our photos exactly when he said he would—and they turned out beautiful. He also brought a great energy to the session, keeping things light and even making us laugh, which definitely shows in the photos. His pricing is very reasonable for the quality and experience he provides. Highly recommend!

Thomas was AMAZING!! The quality of work on my son’s senior pictures was nothing short of phenomenal. Most importantly, Thomas made my son, who does not enjoy having his picture taken, feel completely at ease. Because of that, he was able to bring out genuine moments and capture truly incredible shots. Thomas was very responsive and helped us figure out what to do!

We had a fantastic time with ‘Whats the Occasion’ photography. We booked for a graduation photo shoot. I was worried that my daughter might feel awkward or insecure, but the photographer was super friendly and easy going, which made the whole shoot a super fun experience. He had great ideas, but also made sure to ask for any wishes we might have and make those a priority. Punctual, professional with great results, I would highly recommend them.

FAQs
What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
We offer a discount for repeat clients. Depending on the location of the shoot, we do charge a small transportation fee. If for some reason the shoot needs to be rescheduled, there is no additional charge.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Amanda or I will first reach out to you via text or phone call to get a feel for what you are looking for! We want to make sure that you are as comfortable and relaxed as possible for the shoot, so we typically go over your "vision' prior to the shoot to ensure that you will be happy with our work!
On the day of the shoot, we will meet at the location site, have formal introductions and then get to work! :)
During the shoot, it will seem like old friends getting together! We believe that laughter is a key to authentic photos so our shoots involve a lot of smiling, jokes and fun stories!
After the shoot you can expect a preview of 5-10 photos within the first 10-48 hours, and then you can expect to receive all of the photos within a 7 day period. If you love the quality of the photos and the experience this would be the moment where you would tip us. While not required, tips are greatly appreciated!
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Thomas was involved in musical theatre for 10+ years. Working both onstage and backstage, I was directly responsible for making "pretty pictures" on stage in live action.
