I'm a guitar and bass instructor for more than 30 years. I teach classical, fingerstyle, jazz, country, blues, and rock styles and play them fluently.
I also can teach music reading, music theory, ear training and songs. A lot of my students like to bring songs they are interested in learning and I learn the songs by ear and teach them to play the songs they love.
I am great with younger children (ages 7 and up), teenagers and adults. I am based at Alpha Music in Virginia Beach, VA. After exchanging a few emails with Steve and one other potential teacher/coach, I chose to work with Steve. We have been meeting weekly for the last few weeks and the experience has been great! He is very talented, not only on the guitar but in teaching and helping me to progress. I'm an older student (over 50) who has had lessons before during my younger years. My experience with Steve so far (and I expect this will not change) has been wonderful - I look forward to the sessions and my practice is productive. His attitude and approach are supportive and encouraging. I strongly recommend that you give him a try if you are thinking about taking lessons at all.

Steve is an awesome teacher! I'm an adult learner and have never played guitar before. He's extremely patient and he's really good at judging the best pace for an optimal learning experience. I've had a month of lessons with him and plan to continue for as long as there's something new to learn.

I was a complete beginner to guitar and Steve had been extremely patient with me in teaching the basics. I found his tips and tricks really helpful to pick up the chords. I really like how he used to converse about the history of music and it's origin. Would definitely recommend him.

I generally charge $120.00 for four 1/2 hour lessons.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I like to get a feel for what a new student already knows and/or is interested in and proceed from there.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I studied classical guitar at Florida State University with Bruce Holzman and with Sam Dorsey at Norfolk State University. I studies pick style guitar with world renowned guitarist Robert Fripp and toured and recorded with his group, Robert Fripp and the League of Crafty Guitarists. I played and helped produce and mix two albums for The Tidewater Guitar Orchestra - a classical ensemble and also played and recorded with The Chesapeake Guitar Quartet. I've played guitar in numerous rock and pop bands and played solo guitar in fine dining establishments and for weddings and parties for many years
