I can't say enough good things about Jarrod! He stayed in excellent contact from start to finish, was professional in every way, and did a beautiful job installing my glass shower door enclosure. He very clearly knows his stuff and takes pride in his work - when he initially came to install my shower door kit, he was concerned about the safety of the suggest install procedure and identified a "random" piece in the boxes that he believed to be a necessary part of the install. After contacting the shower door company the next business day, sure enough, Jarrod was right on the money - the "random" piece was indeed very important and the company failed to send the correct install guide. Jarrod could have easily installed the kit the first visit despite his professional misgivings and I would have been none the wiser, but the fact that he took the extra time and visits to do the right thing speaks volumes to his integrity and the quality of his work. I would hire him again in a heartbeat!

2500 sq.ft., 3 bedrooms, 3 baths with 90% of the house covered in hardwood floors. They did the interior windows, dusted all surfaces, cleaned light fixtures, vents and all interior doors. They even cleaned the baseboards without asking. I like not cleaning, I'll probably have them come back every two weeks.

Dan did painting of my front door stair and did power washing of the deck, driveway, garage floor, and some other places. Not only that his work is professionally and thoroughly done, his communication, attitude of service is entirely above my expectation starting from the beginning. I contacted him long (couple months) before the actual work time, yet he was patient throughout the time visiting my house multiple times and providing detailed quotes, taking lots of photos about any possible work area (even though we ended up only doing a portion of them per his suggestion), and explaining all the details to me. In the end I am super satisfied with his work. I would highly recommend Dan to anyone considering painting or power washing!

My wife and I have a 1,000 sq. ft. rental condo that was in need of wall repairs and paint due to poor tenants. There was preventable water damage in the master bath, chips and dings on most of the corners of each wall due to moving furniture in and out of the condo, all the lower white trim and white doors were scuffed, scratched, and or punctured. Overall it was in need of some TLC for the next tenants. Using thumbtack for the first time was a great experience and it saved me a lot of time instead of searching for painters individually. Within 24 hours I had 3 bids and appointments set within that week to look over the condo. I highly recommend it and plan to use it in the future for my next project. Meeting David and his DYC Painting crew was pleasant and professional. They are a younger team that is family oriented and hard working. A project that would of taken my wife and I probably a good seven days took only 2 days for DYC to complete. They have competitive pricing and are willing to wheel and deal to earn your business. DYC did all the work and repairs requested plus on schedule as promised. After inspection of their work there were some minor details that my wife and I found but the team easily fixed them right on the spot and made sure we were happy with the work performed and the appearance of the condo. I definitely would use them again if needed and hope that you would consider giving them a chance to earn your business. .:Rick Bremerton, WA.

Both door locks on my newly purchased older motorhome failed within several weeks after I bought it. I consulted 3 locksmiths...luckily Pi Security Solutions was one of them. Nim Gil came to my home, gave me a fair estimate and had my locks fixed within an hour. He is ethical, professional and very skilled in lock problems. He charged me 1/4 of what Harris Ford estimated. I am completely satisfied and delighted with his work and price, and recommend him unconditionally. Please consider him and his company for any lock problems you have...you won't be sorry!

I was so impressed that I have two other tasks that I hope to have started in January. And they cleaned up after themselves, wow! We hired Jesse to finish a covered patio - and a few other things such as resetting the front door and waterproofing around it. He did a quality job and his turn around was very quick. He is very responsive and always quickly returned calls /texts. It was very easy working with Jesse. Our project had different parts and Jesse was very responsive and quickly fixed a couple of details that we pointed out to him. Jesse is professional and also knowledgeable in what he does. He also tells you the pros and cons which was very helpful in deciding between our options. We are happy with the work that he did and will definitely hire him again.

While building a 4,000 sq. ft. home I met Mike when looking for someone to build a wall of bookshelves and cabinets in the study. I am a designer by profession so I'm particularly detail oriented and this project was a lifelong dream. It didn't take long to realize Mike was a special talent and a great person. Many months later he has built, installed, fixed and finished things in every room in our house. From elaborate trim, wainscoting, a barn door (requiring restoration of a historic door), a very unique kitchen island, mirrors, cabinets, dumb waiter and laundry chute doors, to resizing and installing a historic fireplace surround, stair handrails, bathroom vanities, address numbers, a hidden door to a powder room, closet systems and custom clothes rods and shelves, the list literally goes on and on. Not only does Mike have the knowledge and skills to do such varied projects, he has excellent communication skills, invoices clearly, and treads lightly and respectfully throughout the home. Mike will be our first call whenever we need something built or installed in our home, and I recommend him enthusiastically. Feel free to get my phone number from Mike if you want to hear more. -Jay

Leo was great to work with. We hired Pop-A-Lock to install a keyless entry lock and deadbolt system. He was diligent to make sure the locks lined up accurately and explained as the weather changes he may have to come back and make adjustments due to hot/cold air causing swelling/shrinking of the door.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How does a locksmith open a locked door?

Locksmiths use specialized tools and techniques to open your door in the case of lockouts or lost keys. Trained locksmiths can pick your door lock with lock-picking tools such as a rake, a tension wrench, a half diamond or a hook. They may use a technique called bumping, which will work on pin tumbler locks, or as a last resort they may use a drill to remove your existing lock. The national average locksmith price ranges between $70 and $100. A locksmith can also replace your current lock system, re-key your locks if you have lost your keys, repair a broken lock, install a deadlock and more. Locksmiths not only help with front doors, they can help if you are locked out of your car, locked out of your mailbox, locked out of your shed … you name it. There may be an additional charge for emergency after-hours locksmith services. Check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost for a car locksmith?

There are several reasons you may need a car locksmith. You may be locked out of your car (either with the keys inside or with no keys at all), you may have lost your car keys and need a new key, or you may want to make a duplicate car key. The national average locksmith price ranges from $70 to $100. Getting locked out of your car can be scary and overwhelming — especially if it’s cold and dark out. Fortunately, professional locksmiths provide round-the-clock assistance to help people in these circumstances.

Car lockouts are one of the main reasons people need a locksmith. Your locksmith’s price can depend on the type of car you have, the time of day (or night) it is, and where you are located. Locksmith pricing may be based on a flat rate, or pricing may be quoted to you after the locksmith determines the circumstances. For example, a flat rate for a car lockout could be $65 for standard vehicles. That price could be higher for after-hours or long-distance service, or service during extreme weather. If you have entirely lost your car keys, a locksmith can make you a new car key, but first they must verify that you are the owner of the car. Locksmiths can even program new car key fobs for you — often at a lower price than a dealership.

How much does it cost to make a new key for a car?

Locksmiths’ prices for making new car keys can vary depending on the make of your car as well as the time of day and location. The national average locksmith price ranges from $70 to $100, but duplicating a key may cost as little as $30, while extraction a key stuck in the ignition, cutting a new key and programming the fob can cost much more.

You might need a new car key if you have lost your key, the key broke in the ignition, the key is bent or damaged, or you just want a duplicate in case of emergency. You can request a duplicate of a key you have on hand, or you can have a new key made or cut if you have lost your original car keys. If you need to replace lost keys, you’ll need to first provide proof that you are the owner of the car along with the vehicle identification number (VIN). If you’re just locked out of your car but don’t need a key made, a locksmith may charge $65 to get you back in. Locksmith car key services are often far more affordable than dealership prices for new keys.

How much does it cost to have a deadbolt lock installed?

Installing a new deadbolt lock can improve your home security, especially if you think your current lock system has been compromised or there are unaccounted-for copies of your house keys in circulation. A professional locksmith can install a new deadbolt for you in a matter of hours. The national average locksmith price ranges from $70 to $100. Locksmith prices for installing deadbolts may be higher based on whether the professional provides the lock or you have it on hand, how many components the locking system includes, and how long the installation takes. The cost to purchase a lock yourself from a big-box store can range from approximately $70 to $225 or more, depending on quality and materials. Higher-security locks often take longer and therefore cost more to install.
