FAQs
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Yes. To keep my certification as a Health and Fitness Specialist through the American Collage of Sports Medicine (ACSM) current I have to regularly acquire continuing education credits. To do this I read ACSM Certified News articles and take various health and fitness courses. Currently I am taking a nutrition and weight management course and will soon also be taking a health coaching certification course.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I grew up in a family with the majority of the people being overweight and some even obese. My mom was always struggling with her weight, trying this thing or that, only to end up right back where she started or worse. I saw the affect that this had on her both mentally and physically and it made me want to learn how to help not only her but others in the same position.
- Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?
Recently I had the chance to train a young basketball player preseason who was coming back from an ankle injury the previous season. It was very different from most of what I've done in the past and I really enjoyed it. The best part was her noticing muscle tone she didn't have before and her telling me after her first practice that my training made practice seem easy.
