FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
It is very difficult putting a price on my time. Some pieces may take weeks to produce and others minutes.... I have been told that 2x the cost of materials is a good rule but I would just rather discuss it with me customer beforehand then come up with a price that is agreeable for us both.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
To meet then get an understanding of what they are needing, have them bring in clippings from magazines; pictures or even sketches of something they liked. When I feel I understand what they want, I like to give them a general breakdown of expenses then have them decide if they want to proceed. Once hired, I will try to take pictures as I go to ensure that I am on the right track before it gets too costly to make adjustments. I must say, I do not work with gold or platnum.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am constantly taking technique and design classes either in person or on line to see the latest procedures. The shops I do business with are always going to all the trade shows and bringing back the latest techniques, I then take the classes from them as well as on line. The classes followed up by studying various trade magazines/books help keep me up on trends as well as my improving my skills.
