FAQs
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
There is no formal training program for being a karaoke host. But I am a member of N.A.M.E (National Association of Mobile Entertainers) and the ADJA (American DJ Association). I attend their conferences when time permits. I am also very active with message forums related to karaoke where local and worldwide karaoke hosts and hosting companies share information and ideas. Finally, I have taken great pains to get to know the relevant and influential folks at the major US based karaoke song manufacturers. All the way to the CEO level in a few cases. I feel this is critical to understanding how licensing and creating the music - the core ingredient of karaoke - gets taken care of.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
A bar manager friend of mine called me and asked if I could fill in for a karaoke host that abandoned a gig. It was supposed to be a 4-6 week run and then I done. It turned in a 1.5 year run. About a year into it I started thinking about doing more gigs but didn't take it seriously until the 1.5 year mark. I took a gig in downtown (where I am still at today) and have since added 3 additional regular shows to the mix. It has gone for a hobby, to a full on business that has taken on a life of it's own.
- What types of customers have you worked with?
Feel Good Productions specializes in regular weekly/monthly karaoke shows at venues that are trying to draw in a crowd for an extended period of time. We know that karaoke is about promoting the venue, drawing people in, getting them to stay, and most importantly - spending some money! Karaoke is supposed to be fun, but it also needs to generate an income for the venue and the host! That takes getting people in the door that are willing to spend some money! We are also happy to do one-off special events for just about any occasion. Corporate events, birthdays, weddings, anniversaries....really anything you want live music, karaoke, and an MC for!
