About
I will always go above and beyond for my student - regardless of pay. Students appreciate my resourcefulness when I can introduce something novel and unexpected to further their learning process: that's always a lot of fun. When a student gains confidence... Patience, respect, and an understanding of teaching are essential here. Eventually, a student remedies their problem areas and they begin to have AHA moments. Things start clicking and the brains stars firing. When I see a student succeeding, I am happy to have been a part of the process.

I started working with Theo in February 2015. I found him very engaged and very enthusiastic about the subjects he teaches. He has a very deep understanding of the language arts and always willing to work with you on a curriculum based on the student's needs. I am an adjunct instructor at UW, and I will gladly recommend Theo any day. Don't hesitate to call me for references. Best, Ilanko.

Theo has been flexible, attentive, open, and completely willing to tailor his curriculum and focus on our kids' writing needs. I am impressed by his dedication to help our kids become excellent writers, and have confidence in his well-developed curriculum. He has been extremely open to feedback and a delight to work with. I highly recommend Theo as a tutor!

Our Experience with our English Tutor, Theodore has been outstanding. Theodore tutors twice a week for us and comes each and every week prepared with a well thought out lesson to meet our specific learning needs. I would recommend Theodore for his English teaching skills for sure, just so long as its not on Tuesday or Thursday evenings between 6 and 7pm. :) Brady

I strongly recommend Theo if someone is looking for a math tutor. Theo tutored my daughter during the summer. She failed Algebra and had to take the class in the summer. Theo was able to explain the concepts and teach my daughter how to solve the Algebra problems. After just 2 tutoring sessions my daughter had a better understanding of the Algebra concepts. My daughter received an 87 as her grade for Algebra 1. I strongly recommend Theo without any reservations. Theo is patient and it's a bittersweet departure hoping Theo returns back to DC.

FAQs

  • How did you get started doing this type of work?

I graduated from High School with a 2.9 GPA. I was a troublemaker, a socialite, an athlete, and very intellectually curious - while being a terrible student. I required mentorship and guidance and there was nobody able to reach me. I spent a year living by myself after High School taking classes at community college. I met teachers desperate for smart students who asked me to think about my attitudes and preconceived notions. They were right and I followed their teaching. They brought me to the top. I held a near perfect GPA, became a political player, made better friends, and realized how to tap into my own latent potential. The whole time, the funniest thing to me was how similar I was to my less focused, high-school self. I wish I could have taught my High School self - that's when I decided tutoring was the line of business for me.
