FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Editing jobs are usually quoted per word. For ongoing projects, such as a monthly or quarterly magazine, we may quote a flat rate based on the average word count, so that your cost doesn't change with each issue. Writing jobs are quoted on an hourly rate or flat fee based on expected hours. The amount of content needed, as well as the need for research, multiple editing rounds, etc., will be considered.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
For editing jobs, we will have you provide a sample of the writing as well as the final word count. This enables us to provide an accurate estimate for cost and turnaround time. We will also inquire about file format (Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Google Docs/Slides, Adobe PDF, etc.), deadlines, style guide and dictionary preference (if you don't have one, we default to The Chicago Manual of Style and Merriam-Webster), and audience (we will take into account reading/education level, familiarity with industry terms and jargon, etc.). For content creation (writing) jobs, I will normally request a phone call to discuss your vision and objectives for the project, as well as project details such as those mentioned above.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Most of our team has either a Bachelor's or Master's degree in English, as well as experience or additional training in other communications-related fields, such as marketing, printing and publishing, journalism, etc.
