George performed for my son's 4th birthday party. Everyone had a wonderful time especially the birthday boy who got to help with some of the tricks. He kept the children's attention throughout the show. Additionally he made balloon hats/animals for all our guests after the show.

We are very happy that we chose, and worked with DJ Jan for our wedding at Frog Creek Lodge in Lakebay, WA. The wedding was a small private (about 50 guests) wedding, and the entertainment DJ Jan provided worked very well for what we needed. Jan was very attentive to our needs and the questions he asked at the pre-wedding planning ensured everything went smoothly on the big day. He made sure to get our lists of songs and preferred music styles to make sure they were prepared for the playlist, and he catered to the crowd and helped make sure everyone across multiple generations had a great time. We would definitely recommend Jan to our family and friends and plan to hire him again in the future. DJ Jan, Thank you!! ~Cheryl & Emmett~

I had a great experience with Digital Hitz for my wedding. This is a big day for any bride, and there are lots of stresses that go with that. Brian put my husband and my mind at easy with his professionalism. He listened to our needs, customized a package for us, and had a very competitive price. Best of all he kept the dance party going all night long! I cant say it enough! I'd definitely recommend Brian's company to anyone who wants a great price for a excellent DJ/MC.

Rick rocks! He went above and beyond to deliver a top notch show for my son's birthday. He entertained a tough crowd of 8 year olds and their parents. He was very flexible and showed professionalism throughout planning and delivering his services. He even took more time to teach my son a couple of tricks. The entire show was well planned and adapted to my audience, the bunny out of the hat was a hit! Smiles all around. Thank you Rick!

Brady was amazing. Best choice for our wedding entertainment. Normally when you hear magicians you think childs birthday or a man on stage pulling a rabbit out of a top hat. Brady was very professional and arrived early looking very polished (even asked for our wedding colors). Both adults and children were impressed with his talents. Guests also were given a token to remind them of his magic. Brady mingled with our guests and had everyone engaged. Would definitely recommend.

There were a few "hiccups" with communication in the beginning, but everything else was excellent! Our All-Class reunion event in Seattle was a blast and everyone had so much fun having photos taken, thanks to the wonderful team that was there!! (The photos I had taken are framed and up on my wall.) =) The team members were all friendly and very professional and, above all, extremely fun! Apologies that this review is so late. (Our event was held in Seattle last summer, July 2016.) If our group is ever in the Emerald City again, we will definitely be contacting you again!! Thank you again for everything!!

Evan did a great job. He kept in touch although we didn't do a good job providing him the information when we should have. He was punctual and worked well with our wedding site coordinators.

Inviting Paisely over to entertain our guests was such a good decision. She is great with kids, interacted with them and kept them focused on the various activities she had planned for. She made balloons, did face painting and also presented a small magic show for the kids. The kids were excited and happy. We did not have to worry too much about engaging kids in anything else! She is professional and extremely responsive as well. I would suggest Paisley to everyone who's looking to entertain either a small or big group of kids.

Clive took our wedding pictures and they turned out fabulous! Most of the time, we were not aware that he was taking photos like a lot of photographers. If you desire quality photos with a photographer that captures moments instead of poses, this is the photographer for you. Clive also takes posed photos very well too.

Mr. Ives, Dj my wedding about 41/2yrs ago. The reason we choose him was because he was very affordable. When we meet up to talk about what type of music my wife and I wanted for the wedding. And he believed what we asked for. He is truly very talented Eh and he knows his music. Thank you again Ronnal, for making our day memorable and special.

I worked with Calvin who is very personable, detail orientated, and flexible. He immediately made me feel very comfortable and confirmed that I have made the right choice for choosing them as my wedding photographer, photobooth and videographers. Calvin took the time to meet me in person for an introduction, then we had another meeting walk thru the venue and review in details for all moments I wanted to capture on the big day. I highly recommend Snap Studio, and would hire them again in a heart beat! :) thanks Snap Studio for making my wedding day easy!

Ed Mays Groove Kitchen’s music is full of jazzy delta blues, pop, rock and funk as well, for a sound that is timeless yet modern in it's own way. It’s kind of like stepping back in time, but with the keys to the Porche. This group - is undeniably charming, and undeniably entertaining. Not to mention pretty darn talented. Our guests ranged in all ages, and everyone loved Ed Mays Groove Kitchen. If you want your wedding reception, or whatever event to really "Groove", book this band! -Christy K, Seattle, WA

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a mariachi band?

Mariachi bands are rooted in Mexican culture. Traditional mariachi bands consisted of two or more members playing stringed instruments, wearing regional costumes adapted from the charro (Mexican horseman or cowboy). Modern mariachi bands, which are likely what you’re looking for when searching for a mariachi band for hire, feature at least four members who play stringed instruments (violin, vihuela, bass guitar called guitarron) and one or more trumpets. The costumes have remained the same, but now trumpets are synonymous with mariachi music. Mariachi bands for hire often play a wide range of music, including styles originating from Mexico and adopted from elsewhere. These include jarabes, waltzes, serenades, corridos (Mexican ballads), ranchera, cumbia, and more. Mariachi bands for hire bring a festive and soulful element to a party, birthday, wedding, corporate affair, fundraiser or community event. UNESCO has inscribed mariachi music on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

What is a photo booth rental?

A party photo booth is a fun, interactive experience where guests can take a series of photos (usually three or four) that are immediately printed out on a strip as a keepsake. When you rent a party photo booth, the company sets up the booth or photo station at your event; a photographer staffs the booth and coaches guests on how to use it throughout the event. Often the photo booth rental company provides props like silly hats, wigs and glasses. There are different types of party photo booth rentals. An open-air booth has a curtain or backdrop that allows more freedom of movement and enables more people to use it at one time. The traditional enclosed photo booths that you may have seen at the mall or the fair tend to cost more to rent, as they are harder to transport and also cost more for the pros to purchase. The national average cost for party photo booth rentals is $400-$500.

How many mariachis can a band have?

A mariachi band for hire can have as many players as you like. Modern mariachi bands typically have a minimum of four players with the trumpet playing a vital musical role along with stringed instruments such as the violin, guitarrón (a Mexican bass guitar with a deep body), vihuela (a Spanish stringed guitar) and guitar. Strong vocals are also an important component of mariachi bands for hire, since one or more of the players will be singing during the performance. For a truly spectacular show, you can hire a mariachi band with 15 or more players. The medley of stringed instruments, multiple trumpets, soaring vocals, and even an accordion or harp is powerful and beautiful. Mariachis typically wear the traditional costume of charros — Mexican horsemen. The look is a very regal, monotone suit, often in black or white, with silver adornments and embroidery. Mariachi bands often wear sombreros as well. Traditional mariachi bands were only made up of two or more players, according to a UNESCO report celebrating the cultural heritage of the musical style. The style of music originated in the state of Jalisco. Now the style of music is symbolic of Mexico but is celebrated all over the world, and adds a fabulous vibrancy to any group’s events, parties and weddings.

How much does a mariachi band cost?

A mariachi band will bring your party or event alive with their fabulous costumes, beautiful playing and strong vocals. The cost of a mariachi band for hire will depend on how many players are in the group. Each musician in a performance group needs to be paid, so pricing is usually based on the number of mariachis (musicians), the location of the event (and travel time required), and the length of the performance. Day of the week also affects cost, as does day — Christmas, New Year’s Eve and other major holidays will cost more than regular days. The national average cost for live bands of all types ranges between $740 and $1,200. Depending on where you live and regional rates for performers, you might expect to pay between $65 and $120 per hour, per player. Mariachi groups may have 12-15 players available for performance at one time, depending on your budget. Here are some examples of how the number of players affects average cost:

  • Four mariachis: $300 per hour for weeknights, $400 per hour for weekends.
  • Five mariachis: $350 per hour for weeknights, $400-$450 per hour for weekends. Weekends may have a minimum number of hours.
  • Six mariachis: $400 per hour for weeknights, $450-$500 per hour for weekends.

How much is it to rent a photo booth for a party?

Renting a party photo booth for your next event will get your guests engaged and provide a take-home favor for attendees. The cost to rent a party photo booth will vary depending on the type of booth, the day and time of year, the length of the rental, and any add-ons you select. The national average cost for party photo booth rentals is $400-$500. Here are some examples of average party photo booth rental costs:

  • Weekday packages: $300-$550, depending on features included and length of rental. A three-hour weekday package for $500 could include guest book, personalized photo strips and DVD of all the photos.
  • Weekend packages: $450-$700, depending on features included and length of rental.
  • Additional hours: $100-$150 per extra hour.
  • Add-on features:
    • Photo guest album services: $75.
    • Personalized photo strips: $30-$50.
    • Custom photo backdrops or vinyl skin branding of the booth: $150-$300.
    • Live social media connectivity (ability to share photos to social media accounts): $100-$250.
