Hi, I'm Bruno George, PhD, a writer, editor, and novelist. I have over a dozen years of experience as an editor for such clients as Yale University Press and Microsoft. Academic writing and business writing are in my wheelhouse. So is creative writing: I have an MFA from an Ivy League university, and my short fiction has been recognized with an award from the National Endowment for the Humanities.
I can help you with editing for dissertations, novels, and nonfiction books.
I ghostwrite memoirs, fiction, and other books and essays; I do not ghostwrite dissertations or academic essays.

I found Bruno to be a wonderful editor and sounding board. His own experience writing a dissertation was evident in the questions and suggestions he offered when editing mine. He caught errors I wouldn't have and helped me organize my ideas in a way that made the whole project stronger. That he did all of this within the timeline I gave him was a huge weight off my mind. I'm planning on consulting Bruno again for future writing projects.

Dr. George is my go-to for professional writing of the highest quality in every genre of work that I support. From the National Magazine Award-winning Nest magazine (were I was Literary Editor) to the ground-breaking weekly newspaper The Stranger (where I was Books Editor), Dr. George has reliably provided me with the highest level of work, promptly and agreeably. Dr. George is equally skilled as an editor and I regularly rely on him for editing of my own essays and fiction. Highly recommended! —Matthew Stadler

Dr. George contributed to one of the most memorable issues of The Stranger, one about the dead in Seattle during a time when Dr. George worked as kind of a writer in residence at the mortuary in Fremont. The issue included a number of writers' observations and investigation into death in Seattle. The issue was striking in that it excelled at realizing Dr. George's unique sensibility in finding the sublime in the mundane, and pulling sometimes opaque concepts into sharp, easily understood relief. "Herewith--before I cease to exist, or rather, after I have ceased to exist, since my job is already consigned to history--a report from the death trade in Seattle." I was fortunate to first work with Dr. George at The Raven Chronicles. Dr. George's discovered a number of excellent writers while reading the magazine, but it is this issue of The Stranger, I think, that shows Dr. George's ability as a collaborator and instigator of new work. Dr. George is someone who would elevate your work.

I have worked with Dr. George on several occasions, and each time his editing has been meticulous, improving my piece significantly. I have recommended him to friends who were looking for a ghostwriter who could express their thoughts elegantly and succinctly. Dr. George more than fulfilled their expectations. He is trustworthy and dedicated to meeting and exceeding his clients' needs. I expect to work with him often in the future.

Dr. George worked on my dissertation in 2018 providing very helpful feedback and insights about my writing. Although we are in very different fields, history and literature, Dr. George's aid was invaluable in my success navigating a very difficult time in my program. His insights and recommendations made not only my project stronger, but my approach to the work and the discipline to complete the dissertation also improved with his advice. I cannot recommend him more highly.

FAQs
What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
My prices for editing and writing are in line with the rates published by the Editorial Freelancers Association.
Use the following prices as a guide; every project is different. I like to work on a per-word basis or else on a flat fee quoted at the start.
Proofreading and copy editing start at $.03/wd.
Developmental editing starts $.05/word.
Writing starts at $.19/word.
Dissertation/thesis coaching is $75/hour.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Your project won't be quite like anyone else's, so I like to start with a chance to read your manuscript or draft or outline, if you have one, and also schedule a call on Zoom or Google Meet. We'll work together better if we take a little time at the start to get on the same page.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
PhD in literature from Brandeis University, a private university in the Northeastern US.
MFA in creative writing (fiction) from Brown University, an Ivy League university in the Northeastern US.
