FAQs
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I started out doing my own taxes when I was 16 and pretty soon was doing everyone in my family and then the neighborhood! I've kept it as a second job for my entire professional career, and then grew my business into my primary profession.
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Make sure they have some formal training or certification in the field. You currently don't have to actually know anything about taxes to open a business in many states. The IRS recently tried to implement a requirement for testing and licensing of tax preparers and this was frozen in court by people who don't want to be tested. You don't want someone doing your taxes who only knows how to open TurboTax!
