FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Since there are so many variables to take into consideration, projects need to be assessed on an individual basis. For this reason, I bid by the project and not solely by square footage. Generally speaking, things that are more difficult will be more costly. A mesh-backed mosaic will cost more to install than 3x6" white subway tiles. Large and heavy format tiles will be at a premium as compared to smaller and easier to work with 8x8" tiles. A finicky medium such as natural stone will cost more than ceramic to install. Two niches in the shower will be twice as much as one. Running a herringbone pattern will be more than a standard grid, and so on. Although I strive to be as flexible as possible, rescheduling or other interruptions can also affect the bottom line. This can be quite costly, as once a project is scheduled, other prospects will have to be passed up. Remobilization can have a similar outcome. I always strive to be competitive in pricing, knowing that there will be both lower and higher bids than mine. I always strive to offer an incredible level of quality and service at a decent price.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
A general price can be given with as little as a description and a few photos. This gets us into the ballpark. The next step is to meet and go over the area in person, after which a more accurate written estimate can be worked up. Once we go over the estimate we can discuss various options if needed and firm up a price, after which the estimate will be updated accordingly and signed by both parties. A minimum deposit, to be applied to final invoice, is required to secure a spot on my calendar. Materials will need to be paid for up front via the materials list. Once the materials have been delivered and the tools have been set up, either a 1/3 or 1/2 deposit on labor (depending on the size of the project) is required.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
In addition to years of installing for flooring outlets, interior designers, housing developers, and property management firms, as well as working directly with homeowners, I have developed a philosophy of continual education. I am constantly researching the industry to increase my expertise and keep up with the latest innovations.
