FAQs
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have the latest software and there is always the new learning curve with updates. I have a full understanding of all aspects of my field. Some exciting things are the new printers that run about $70,000. You can store repeat jobs to them in folders for your company or different sales people. Or if you do a proposal and certain pages are the same, you can print those off with a touch of a button. They also staple and fold booklets and brochures while allowing for different types of paper stock yet rendering beautiful print quality.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I took some of my artwork to an ad agency and they told me I needed to learn the printing side of graphics. I went to Silver Lake College and took courses in Graphic Design and Art and then went to further schooling at Dynamic Graphics Foundation in Peoria. There I would spend a week and also evening hours for each class. The teachers were the top graphics people in the industry. I took almost every course they offered. For example I took the Electronic Prepress from Bob Schaffel, the President and Executive Director of the Professional Prepress Alliance (PPA), a trade organization of pioneering PostScript prepress service providers which adopted the technology in its infancy in 1985. I took Advanced Illustration courses from Bill Vahn, who has more than 35 national and regional awards for his work and has Anheuser-Busch, IBM, 7-UP, Coca Cola, United Airlines, Southwestern Bell and other big name companies as his clients. I took eight courses in all: Desktop Publishing, Web-Page Design, Electronic Design & Illustration I and ll, Electronic Prepress, Airbrush Illustration Techniques, and Advanced Illustration. These pricey classes were technically far beyond what college classes had to offer.
- What types of customers have you worked with?
Logo design, graphics for their website, business cards and stationery for their business. Things usually progress into outdoor signage, brochures, ads, catalogs, Power Point presentations etc.
