FAQs
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
We begin the process by meeting with a prospective new customer in person to discuss their business or project, and to learn a little more about the customer themselves. We will also address any questions regarding our business, our work process, and pricing. At this meeting, we will establish the customer's main goals and target audience and brainstorm ideas together for the website, video, or design job they would like done. After this meeting, we will begin working on initial mock-ups for websites and design work, or a shot list for videos.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I graduated with a degree in Screen Arts & Cultures from the University of Michigan. The program allowed me to develop a broad knowledge of all aspects of film production, including the pre-production process, production and filming, post-production and editing, and screenwriting. I have experience working with various mediums, including digital photography, digital video, 35mm film, and basic animation and visual effects. During my time as a student, I worked as a freelance videographer. I filmed several Bar & Bat Mitzvahs, and also created photo/video montages for the events. Many of the courses I took were focused on new media in the digital world and learning about how audiences interact with different forms of media through different screens - from movie theaters, to televisions, computers, and mobile phones. I worked for a year with a Michigan-based financial planning company that specializes in retirement planning as a Marketing Specialist. With this company, I have filmed various videos ranging from a website promotional video featured on their website's homepage, to short videos highlighting the courses they teach and various client events. In addition to this, I worked on revitalizing the firm's branding by redesigning various print materials, and overhauling their email/drip marketing by creating custom email templates, and introducing video as a major component of their email marketing strategy. I have primarily developed my skills in graphic design on my own, working primarily with Adobe Creative Suite (namely Illustrator and Photoshop). I have also taken courses on various programming languages to improve my skills as a web designer, and can now work with HTML, CSS, PHP, and MySQL. My partner at Argo Labs studied computer science engineering at the University of Michigan.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
My interest in video as a medium for communication and how audiences interact with various screens inevitably led me to developing an interest in web design. I started out primarily as a graphic designer, creating basic logos and other custom graphics for both web and print. I partnered up with a computer science engineering student that I met at college, and we started working together as freelancers developing websites for small businesses a few years ago. Since then, I have taken various courses to learn programming languages and refine my skills as a web designer. I spent most of my life living in the heart of Bangkok, Thailand. After coming from a big city and living in Ann Arbor for four years, I fell in love with the vibrant small business community that thrives in this town. My partner took me to his hometown of Coldwater, Michigan, where I met even more passionate small business owners with great ideas. We now own and operate Argo Labs in Ann Arbor, MI - a web design/development and digital marketing firm, specializing in helping small local businesses attract new customers and convey their unique identities in the digital world.
