Introduction: With a background in photo- and video-journalism in both newspaper and television, I love to tell the story of people through photographs. While I enjoy the photojournalist style of photography, I have found that interacting with my subjects also stimulates creativity and reveals more of a subject's personality for the camera.
As a freelance photographer since 2009, I shoot portraits, weddings, family reunions and products. While studying for Radio/TV/Film and journalism, I interned with the Herald Times Reporter newspaper in Manitowoc, WI, in 2006 and 2007. I also worked at Valley Camera from 2006 until March 2018, when the store closed. Helping people with their photography skills and teaching photo classes, as well as retouching photos (removing backgrounds, fixing color, fixing rips and fading), were among my duties.
I enjoy working with people. The more I interact with a subject in a photo shoot, or any personal interaction, the better, smoother, more satisfying the work becomes and the more interesting and more personalized the photos become. I like to let the action in the moment happen, but I will give gentle nudges when I see potential that can be made into a beautiful photo.
