FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Personal injury cases are handled on a contingency fee that starts at 33% of damages awarded. Criminal cases are generally handled on a flat fee basis and vary greatly depending on the type of case it is. DUIIs are usually quoted $2500 flat fee through pre-trial conference and an additional $3500 or more for trial; hourly cases such as family law cases are billed at $225 per hour for attorney time and $125 for paralegal time.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Potential clients are scheduled for a time to meet with Shelley to discuss their matter and answer questions. At that time, Shelley gives them a quote as to how much their matter will cost. We usually require people to pay a fee upfront for services called a "retainer." Personal injury cases are an exception and are handled on a contingency, meaning no money is due up front.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Shelley has a undergraduate degree from University of Wisconsin Milwaukee in social work and criminal justice. She worked as social worker working with the elderly, developmentally disabled, and severely traumatized and abused children briefly before going to law school at Seattle University. She has been a practicing attorney since 1998.
