The instrument is not the camera but the photographer.” -- Eve Arnold Picture Hi there. I'm Courtney. I'm the principal photographer and owner of Stag & Bird Photography. I'm passionate about capturing the moments family to document your everyday with lifestyle photos that reflect the fleeting times. I love to do stylized shoots in mini-sessions and I revel in capturing the bond between nursing moms and babies. When you have a session with me we are going to laugh. We are going to dance and sing. Hopefully you're a better singer than I am though, because I'm terrible at it. I love to work with kids and families, even if your babies are covered in fur. When I'm not behind the lens, you'll find me chasing my two young boys (E2 & E3) and husband (E1) around a motocross or BMX track. The other members of our family are the three dogs: a mastiff named Zeus, an old pitbull called Shy, and a French bulldog that thinks his name is NO, but it's really Velo (French for bicycle!). I first started as a freelance motocross photographer in the late 1990's shooting with a real FILM camera (ancient to some) and eventually landed a staff spot at MotoPlayground Magazine in the early 2000's. I have since come back to photography refocused on family and portraits, but you'll still find plenty of sport in the Action section of my portfolio. I am also the editor-in-chief of The Journal: A BMX Narrative, which is a BMX racing culture magazine. I am an advocate for breastfeeding and feel like MTV could do an episode of True Life: Mom Wears Yoga Pants Daily. I love funky eyeglasses and freshly dyed multi colored hair. My children and family are my daily inspiration and that reflects in my work. Traveling for work and my kids' activities is such a blessing. I feel such urge to explore sometimes, I think I get that from my paternal grandfather, and destination events are where my soul longs to go. I have a "Wanderlust List" of places I'd love to travel and shoot at, and I provide a hefty discount when a client would like to bring me to one.
