Introduction: I have a passion for great functional designs that can make an impact in the world. I hold a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Michigan State University and M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from University of Michigan - Ann Arbor. I specialize in 3D modeling, prototype creation, 3D printing, small volume production, PCB design, electro-mechanical system integration and engineering analysis. I got my start working in controls and systems engineering in the automotive industry in Detroit. As part of the design process, I work with clients to distill the minimum viable product they want to make. Once the initial prototype is designed using Fusion 360, a real life version is 3D printed.

Very responsive & delivered high-quality work. The objective of the project was to create a 3D model of an intricately shaped podium and provide CAD files to manufacture in house. It was previously attempted by another design firm but they didn't get the concept correctly. The project was completed in half the time. After the CAD files were created, Alan stopped by to make sure the files were readable by the CNC machine and helped import each file individually.

Alan from Shapeable contacted me on the phone after we exchanged a few messages. Right away I did not feel comfortable during the conversation because he asking way to many questions before a NDA was in place. He was dismissive and rather rude through out the conversation and follow up texts. I didn't end up moving forward but I might be willing to give another chance someday.
Shapeable's reply
Hi Martin, I am extremely sorry that you had a bad experience with Shapeable during our 20 min call. It is certainly not our intention to make you feel uncomfortable and I hope this response helps reconcile your view of our firm. I'd like to specifically address your concerns: 1) "Right away I did not feel comfortable during the conversation because he asking way to many questions before a NDA was in place." When we interact with new customers, we typically ask many questions to understand all aspects of the problem. We want to quickly figure out if we are a good fit or not. We do this to be efficient for our customers and not waste their time. If it's a good fit and we have bandwidth, we'll take your project on. Otherwise we can refer you to someone else. Given the nature of our business, we've always signed NDAs and we have a standard one we provide in case our customers don't have one. In your case, this was never brought up during our call so I assumed this was not a concern. I will be sure to ask the question in the future and I encourage you to do the same. 2) "He was dismissive and rather rude through out the conversation and follow up texts." Sometimes during the initial call it might seem like the conversation is abrupt. The idea is to get to the root problem as quickly as possible asking very specific questions. I apologize if it came across as rude. The goal all along was to focus on the engineering skills required to meet your requirement. During our call, I was also taking notes as you were talking to make sure I captured all the critical requirements. Perhaps the silence was misinterpreted as being dismissive, but I was being as thorough as possible during our call. 3) "I didn't end up moving forward but I might be willing to give another chance someday." Unfortunately, the reason why we couldn't take your project on was because it was not a good fit for our firm's skillset. Coincidentally, we had no resources available to tackle another project at the time. As always, I am happy to provide recommendations of other folks that might be able to help. I hope you don't judge our firm based on this one experience. Our number one goal is to make sure our customers have the best possible outcome for their prototypes. Thanks again for your feedback, Sincerely, Alan Mond
