FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Pricing is always on a case by case basis and no two will be alike. Don't be fooled by showy on-line adds promising a million in coverage for $5 per month. ~There's a great deal more to getting the best policy, premium, and amount of coverage than just plugging in your date of birth and desired amount. The premium that you will pay will be based on a number of factors such as your current, previous, and familial health as well as your driving record, foreign travel, and even your hobbies such as scuba diving or flying. This process is referred to as underwriting and not two insurance companies underwrite the same. This is why it's important to work with an independent broker with access to as numerous options to get you the very best for your money.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
We find that most insurance sales, especially life insurance is too salesly." Many agents will talk for a few minutes and then recommend an amount and push to get you into an application. To make matters worse, the average agent in this industry has been in this field for 9 months or less meaning that it's very likely you're dealing with someone who was recently in another field. Here's the deal, your life insurance is a facet of your financial planning and can't be done in just ten minutes. We'll generally have 2-3 conversations before the word application ever comes up. We'd first like to have a chance to speak with you and hear about your goals and concerns. We'll also spend some time talking about your health so that we can do a thorough job of selecting the right insurnace company for your needs. Once we've put together a plan for your needs, we'll spend some time going over our recommendations and answering any questions that you might have. Once you're comfortable with our recommendations, the premium we're asking you to pay, and course of action, then we can talk about what an application looks like and how long underwriting will take.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I began my financial services career nine years ago working as a registered investment advisor (RIA). RIAs take a different approach to your financial needs as they serve as fiduciaries which means that they are legally obligated to recommend a suitable course of action and assumes a duty to act in good faith and with care, candor, and loyalty in fulfilling the obligation. All that to say, I spent years learning to recommend a course of action that is the best fit for my clients needs apart from the commission or compensation that I might make. Apart my from my original work as an IRA, I'm licensed for life & health in eight states currently.
