It's about communication; a relationship between the dog and the pet parent because in reality we love dogs because they love us unconditionally and really do want to please us and so in return we want to please them and make life as enjoyable as possible. Part of enjoying life is communicating effectively and understanding one another. What a bummer it is to be yelling at your dog, repeating yourself only to have your dog ignore you. Wouldn't you agree? I enjoy training the most when a light bulb goes off in the person's mind and they realize how enriching their relationship can be and how much their dog is capable of learning. They can go from basic obedience on-leash to off-leash, to agility or tracking or soft mouth retrieval. (Not necessarily in that order.) The sky's the limit!
