FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I have a large price range per square foot, between $25 and $100, with most jobs falling in the middle. Price depends on complexity and detail required. Lots of sky, for instance, would bring the price down. Higher-end residential commissions, including landscapes (possibly with framing trompe l’oiel elements) fall near the top of this range. Small jobs are not subject to the square-foot metric: they’re priced individually by estimated time & skill required.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
If the customer is willing to proceed, I set up a payment schedule based on percentage of completion, starting with an upfront amount to cover research and design, a process leading to a scale-version of the mural approved by the customer, so they know exactly what will be going on the wall. I like to separate the budget into (a) design and (b)execution/installation, with the former representing at least 30% of the budget. Design is the most important part of the process, enabling faster and more efficient full-scale execution.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Early training in realistic painting was supplemented by valuable lessons learned learned as a scenic artist for two different companies in Boston, MA during the 80s, which gave me confidence to work on a very large scale, creating backdrops for theatre, film and video. I began putting these lessons to work immediately in a career that has spanned over 30 years.
