Introduction: As a graduate of Columbia University, I have gone through a lot to achieve my academic and life goals. I know what it takes and the struggles involved in learning tough subjects. I have been teaching for 3 years now and always adjust my methods to the individual student. I'm holistic and communicative in my approach. I work on preparedness and confidence along with the subject, and I am always transparent about where the student is at and the next steps to be taken.
I love getting to learn a student's strengths and seeing what makes them shine. What's even more satisfying is seeing students work towards overcoming and mastering elements they were previously apprehensive about. I enjoy working with the student to find the best ways to strengthen their work. Seeing their work pay off and the confidence that comes from that is definitely something I enjoy.

I highly recommend Maria as a tutor for your child on test prep or for homework more generally. She has deep content knowledge of math and ELA as well as other disciplines. Maria has tutored my 3 children for over a year. She has tutored them on test prep for 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th grade core state exams and the SHSAT, as well as assisted them with their homework (planning, writing, problem solving, etc.). My children have different academic strengths/weaknesses and learning styles, but Maria has been extremely effective at knowing each of them and building on their strengths. She is patient with each of them and provides positive and specific feedback, which motivates them to care more about learning, deepens their understanding of math content and improves their writing. Through her academic support and joy of teaching, my children's confidence and school success has improved. In addition, Maria is warm, engaging, professional and punctual. My children look forward to seeing her weekly, as do my husband and I.

As one of Maria’s fellow peers, I have seen at first stance her dedication for her students and colleagues through multiple kinds of professions. Outside of her skills as an actor and tutor, Maria also specializes in essay style writing/editing and proof-reading.
Over the last couple of weeks Maria has helped me write a few cover letters for various internships and job positions within the music and entertainment industry. Having already put together a “general” format cover letter, I knew that Maria would be the ideal person to add just the right about of personal and creative touch towards writing an compelling letter. After a few suggested edits and sentence changes, her and I were on our way to creating a cover letter that began to highlight my best strengths as a working professional and skills as an artist/performer.

Maria is wonderful all around. She has worked with my now 7th grader for two school years and my 5th grader for a year. They have both gained a lot and have improved in the areas that needed help.
